Have seen several of them over time, usually 3 or 4 sections long. They do not seem to do much.

This had ten so I thought it worth photographing. Fresh Water, 100µm (that makes each section about 10µm)

Thanks. You could well be right – lots of similar images on the web.

I found it impossible to narrow it down though.

I suppose lots of things end up in storm drains, ponds and lakes that are not native to it.
