New Pond Sample!

Being this isn't a question or issue as with my other pond sample post I decided to place this one here as it doesn't seem to fit anywhere else.  Laugh

I have myself a new pond sample that is full of action!  I went to the dollar store and got two of these small bug catchers to put my samples in since they are clear and have air holes in the removable lid; that way I can stop killing off everything living inside due to lack of oxygen, lol.

I'm sure this isn't as exciting to most of you since I'm sure you guys have much better samples than I do, but being able to see things moving around inside knowing there is many more tiny little guys to view with my microscope really excites me.  Typically I was never able to see what was living inside what I gather since the containers aren't too clear that I use for gathering (which also ended up being where they stayed since I had no other place to put them, until now).

Here is a little video I made of one of the two containers (this one is a bit more active, though they both have many little friends swimming around and hanging on to the sides).  There are quite a few snails and what looks to be little shrimp guys along with other things.

It looks like you have "Asellus" (water louse)a relative of the land living wood louse and "Gammarus"(freshwater shrimp) amongst your specimens.

I'm sure will enjoy your new containers and watching the changes in the pond life therein.

The changes are what I am loving the most.  Currently I have a bunch of shrimp babies swimming around.  I was pretty positive one of the larger shrimp I gathered was pregnant due to the large, red belly I seen.  Now the red belly is gone and there are lots of babies.  I am also finding new critters like the mysterious worms popping up out of the ground and I have a mosquito larva.

I find myself watching these little pond samples more than I ever did when I had fish tanks, lol.  It is just far more fascinating!

I also discovered a bully shrimp in one of the containers that is picking on all of the other shrimp unlike him (another type of shrimp in there).  They got along just fine before but starting yesterday he decided he no longer is their friend and wanted to kill them off.  >.<
