More images of algae, this time with polarized light, but equally beautiful!  Do you use a the same microscope for polarized light as regular light?  What do you use to get phase retardation?

Yes, I'm using the same microscope.I have two polarizing filters,one is on the light source and second between the objective and binocular head.To get the phase retardation a used my DIY compensator.I made it from some plastic from CD box and i put him under the condenser same like UFG.With the black adhesive tape it gives 3D effect as well.

Thank you for the explanation and demonstration.  Excellent DIY inventiveness, very nice effects and images.  Do you have plans to experiment with Rheinberg filters, by any chance?  I cannot experiment usefully with any of those things on my microscope because the condenser diaphragm is deep inside the condenser (which seems to the case for Nikon condensers that I've seen).
