This alga is common locally in very shallow, about 1 cm, water in seepages including vehicle wheel ruts in fields. This water source dries up after a few weeks. Locally it is usually the only algae found in such habitats.

Recognized by the 2 star-shaped chloroplasts.

Olympus BH2, 40x SPlan achromat, 1.25x intermediate lens, 2.5x NFK relay lens, Nikon D90 camera; DIC.
