New to the world of microscopy and I'm having trouble finding sites that will sell stains to hobbyists (non-institutional addresses). What I really want is a stain set since I don't really know what specific stains I'll be needing until I learn more from hands-on experience. Feed me some links please
Hmmm… That's an interesting one. Being a teacher, I always order relevant chemicals over the school. You may try to order from school supplies and see if they are less strict. Alternatively you may want to experiement with stains such as ink. In some cases these contain dyes that also work for microscopy.

OfflineHi my name is steve. I started earlier this year with a new hobby and like you it was hard in the beginning to find what I wanted/needed, but now I have a good list of suppliers. One thing you didnt specify is where you live because depending where you are it can change who will deliver to you. I'm in Canada here is a good set of stains. http://www.prolabscientific.co…..23658.html
in the US. http://www.hometrainingtools.c…..p?ss=stain
here is another very good site http://www.hms-beagle.com/xamp…..word=stain
Methylene Blue which is used a lot as well as malachite green which isnt used too often can be purchased where they sell aquarium products. Ive also used cyan ink from my ink jet printer refill kit it too works well for some things.
If I can be of more help you can email me
I've now added a new page (also see menu on top) where people can order microscope supplies from Amazon:

Oliver.
Try to find companies that deliver chemicals to schools. Even if you find companies, they may not deliver to private people (only other companies, labs etc.). This is, unfortunately, a quite common problem.
Oliver.

I am looking for a supplier in Norway. Tried ordering supplies on Amazon, but the moment there is any chemicals in it, it is not allowed to be shipped to Norway.
I realize that this post is almost a year old, but perhaps others who search for the same thing can make some use of this information.
I live in Norway as well, and I have faced the same challenge of finding a place who will sell and ship stains to private addresses. I have found a site called KPT-komet that sell science equipment to Norwegian schools. They will take orders from individuals if the total order exceeds NOK 600. (Se more info here)
They have a staining set (varenr: 078601) containing 6 stains + Eukitt mounting medium and xylene for cleaning. See this link or search for "Fargingssett til mikroskopi" on their site. Their policy states that they wont sell chemicals to individuals, but after contacting them they reassured me that all chemicals sold for microscopy were exempt from that rule. I hope this is of any help.
