IOR 486-81 stereomicroscope

Hi guys. Been meaning to show you my new (to me) stereomicroscope and wrote a long(ish) article, but lost it so i'm gonna keep this short. It's the best stereomicroscope you've never heard of. Sure, it's rare like hen's teeth, so i didn't technically lie. This is the IOR NTI 486-81. Afaik "NTI" is s...

Re: IOR MC9 research microscope

Hi everyone, glad to see you enjoyed the post and story. Let's see: @75RR , it's indeed heavily built, but not as heavy as you would expect. Someone in the know told me that it was pressure cast from some magnesium alloy...? It's definitely not steel, it's not ferromagnetic. And about my friend, ind...

IOR MC9 research microscope

Well, it’s about time I got on with this writeup. I’ve had this scope for about a year and have fiddled a lot with it, and with similar scopes. It’s caused me quite a deal of frustration, especially with the photo-taking part. Anyway, let’s begin. Warning 1: take all the following with a grain of sa...

Re: Meopta G11P stereomicroscope / dissection scope

how it has to feel to be the subject being observed with the piercing inclined objective tubes pointed on me. @MicroBob - well, i guess finding yourself on the stage would be a disturbing prospect even if you didn't have the knowledge that you are on a dissecting scope... That german word is someth...

Meopta G11P stereomicroscope / dissection scope

Gonna keep this one short. Gee, what can this (now) clean collection of parts be? IMG_20190718_115429.jpg IMG_20190718_123456.jpg Yes, you guessed it, it's in the title. It was in a shoddier state than it is now. Now, it's so-so. Not great, not terrible. There was a lot of grime, dust and corrosion....

Re: IOR ML-4M

Right, time for an update: a story of equal parts embarassment and success. Ready? I'm not, but here goes anyway. I wrote a lengthy post complaining and moaning about my parfocality issues and lack of image clarity with the current photography tube setup. Turns out, it was my lack of experience and ...

Re: IOR ML-4M

Hello guys, a quick update. - Fixed the fine focus mechanism. It was surprisingly easy, a geared floating rack and pinion mechanism - the rack ha8d skipped off the pinion. Just a matter of repositioning it. - Acquired an IOR analyzer with a 1x binocular head - shown in pic. 47975383446_d1566b446b_b....

Re: IOR ML-4M

A short update. It seems that the illuminator from my Vickers Metalette fits (almost) perfectly the IOR illuminator port. I didn't try the screen to see if it's any better than the flashlight, though. Pic related. IMG_20190517_220413.jpg I made an adapter for the Fuji X mount. There's an M42-Fuji X ...

Re: IOR ML-4M

Hey there, thanks for the replies. Point-by-point: @wporter - you are correct, apparently. I have seen the projection screen on the IOR MC7. It seems the seller just got rid of some extra stuff...meh. It fits on the ML4, but i'm not sure i will use it, it physically strains the chassis and the same ...

IOR ML-4M

Hi there, back with you after a long while. I recently acquired this piece of equipment for a bargain, and i thought i would share it with you. I searched the forum for this type of microscope and, while the company seems to have some (deservedly) good reputation, nothing more could be found. IOR is...

Re: First microscope, identified! Vickers Instruments Metalette

[part 2:] [Figure 6: Barbecue time!] So let's make an adapter for the Fuji X-mount. Parts box revealed a 2-step sink drain PVC pipe (right). Its diameter was close, but not enough to fit the eyepiece holder, plus, the holder is conical anyway. So i heated it and pressed on the holder tube (no optics...

Re: First microscope, identified! Vickers Instruments Metalette

Hi, This is the third time i'm writing this post, the forum lost 2 of my previous drafts so i'm a bit incoherent on this one. Time for an update. Going to make it as a 2-post due to the attachment limitations. Ghetto construction trigger warning. If you don't want to see camp stoves used in micropho...

Wow, thank you so much for the information, i never expected such quick and accurate answers! Michael, that is indeed the scope, great eye! Now i wonder if i can find that camera adapter anywhere... First microscope, identified! Vickers Instruments Metalette

Greetings everyone, I am a beginner in microscopy, having only delved into inverted-lens photomacrography so far, but I have recently acquired an inverted Vickers microscope. The previous owner said it was used for mineralogical studies. I was unable to find any information online, and i would be gr...
