Re: D-Limonene to clear?

Do the posters mean to use glucose or fructose? because Karo (the clear kind) is almost pure glucose. I meant fructose. Walter Dioni suggested (separately) Karo or fructose. I do not know if fructose is less prone to crystallization than glucose (or sucrose for that matter). Apologies for abetting ...

Re: D-Limonene to clear?

Mslichen About 5 months ago I mounted moss and seawater algae (after rinsing with DW) in the syrup. So far, no crystallization. The specimens look fine and chlorophyll-green as before. The only issue is a few air (or oxygen?) bubbles near the filaments - they appeared there within a couple of days ...

D-Limonene to clear?

I've been reading up on a variety of alternatives for the amateur via Walter Dioni's series of articles on Micscape, and I am planning to jump in with both feet beginning this weekend. For clearing wax, Histoclear appears to be a relatively safe option compared to Xylene and Touline (both likely mis...

Mounting medium question

I've pored through the beginner forum as well as searched on the main site, and couldn't find an answer. My main interest is in making permanent slides of plant materials. It seems the favorite mounting medium is Euparal, but my searches for it in the USA have turned up nothing -- either the major s...

Re: Hello from the frozen Northwest!

Thank you for the warm welcome! Edit: Perhaps Lichenologists have the same pioneering spirit as their subjects: http://moticeuropeamericasblog.blogspot.co.uk/2018/02/transition-of-lava-on-mount-etna.html Interesting read. That is one of the things I love about lichens -- how they are first to move i...

Hello from the frozen Northwest!

Hello! I followed a link from Cloudy Nights, the telescope forum, and ended up here! After reading through the first year of the magazine, decided to check out the forum. I'm a budding lichenologist/bryologist working towards my bachelor's in biology at the moment. I'm a non-traditional student (whi...
