Re: Help with what's what on my new microscope
Hobbyist46: Thanks for the detailed information!! This scope was listed as being used in a Serology Lab and I got it via a surplus auction. The ND filters are fairly easily deciphered (via Google Search) and I figured the shutter was to "close" off the light when needed...glad to know I wasn't too f...

Help with what's what on my new microscope
Hi All, I need some help identifying the parts on my new microscope. I got it from a surplus auction; it's a Labophot 2 POL - so....the condenser is definitely marked as Phase - 2; the lamphouse is for a 100w Mercury bulb (although I will need to get a power source). But...what I'm not sure of is 1)...

Re: Hi, noob from Alabama here...
Nice to "meet" you, Howdy and GaryB!!! I'm scheduled to get my Labophot 2 POL TODAY!!!! I'm so excited! I hope it's in as good condition as it appears!! GaryB...don't worry....only my own blood that I'll be looking at!! Although....I will probably do some bacterial staining/viewing, which can potent...

Re: Hi, noob from Alabama here...
Wes, Thanks for your reply. I agree with pretty much everything you said...I have also come to the conclusion that older "name brand" scopes beat the newer (is, Amscope, etc.) scopes hands down. Right now, I'm working on the Alphaphot focus assembly - the left side screw is broken and still in there...

Re: Hi, noob from Alabama here...
Hello Noob from AL... Thanks for posting the 2nd time...the first one didn't come through (at least for me - I got an error message) I am awaiting the arrival of my Labophot 2 POL scope that I bought surplus; I'm hoping it's in as good condition as it looks!!! I have an Alphaphot YS that I'm trying ...

Re: Nikon parts/how to repair fine focus knob?
Hobbyist46, Thanks for the reference; that is the manual that I have, but the Alphaphot YS does not look like that, so I'm trying to find something that looks like the photo I posted. I do think that manual will be very useful for my Labophot 2 POL when I get it, but for now I'm trying to work on th...

Re: Nikon parts/how to repair fine focus knob?
Hi All, Well, I'm going to try to post a photo here of what I've gotten to so far on my Nikon Alphaphot YS, coarse/fine focus assembly. I have two "manuals" (although pretty useless for the most part) that show a completely different looking assembly; can anyone tell if mine is something that someon...

Re: Nikon parts/how to repair fine focus knob?
Thanks everyone for the comments on the focus knobs, shafts, gears, etc.; it is very helpful and much appreciated. One question I have is: my fine focus knob does not have a screw on the "cover" of the knob...it has 2 phillips-head screw places on the "wheel" portion, which the ones in the photos (d...

Nikon parts/how to repair fine focus knob?
Does anyone know where to find parts for a Nikon microscope? I need a footpad. Also, the Manual I found for the scope has almost NO INFORMATION about the actual "workings" of the scope or how to repair/maintain the scope. I need to adjust the fine focus - it turns, then has a big "slip", then grabs ...

Re: Choices for purchase????
Lorez, Thanks for your reply; I purchased a Nikon Alphaphot YS - largely because I already have a couple of Nikon objectives and figured, all things being the same, I might as well be able to use them. I've always heard that Nikon made their objectives (and other parts) to be "just enough" off that ...

Re: Choices for purchase????
Coominya….I looked in the US for the Olympus you posted...the prices here are in the $2K-$4K range!!!
Too pricey for me, but I do like the scope!
Thanks for sharing the picture too!!

Re: Choices for purchase????
Thank you all for your honest, thoughtful and detailed recommendations!!! Right now, I'm leaning towards the Nikon Optiphot or Alphaphot, Reichart 120, Leitz Laborlux, A-O 150, Olympus CH2 or CHT and Leica DME. I've decided not to invest quite $800 at this time, and hope to add later if all goes wel...

Choices for purchase????
Objectives, etc. being similar, could anyone advise on a decent binocular scope to purchase under $800? Several I've seen.... Meiji Techno MT30 and MT40 series American Optical 150, 100 Microstar, (Reichart 120) Wesco Bio VU 2300 Nikon E100, Alphaphot YS2 Swift M1000D, 3300, 3500, 4000 Wild/Leitz La...
