Re: AO turret and condenser ID request

Maybe this listing would be of interest:
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 2780578681
Apochronaut would say if it's suitable but the price seems great.

Re: What was your First Microscope?

When I was about 14 (1958) my uncle lent me his microscope. He had purchased it for med school and now had little use for it so it was on semi-permanent loan. It gave me several years of observing the life I found in local ponds, lakes, and any place I could find water laying around. My uncle is now...

Very good! There are a lot of AO experts on the forum if you need help. Parts for your scope are not horribly expensive on ebay either so upgrading is not too hard.

Coming out of the shadows!

Greetings I have been lurking the forum for a while and done a few posts so I think it is time I "came out" :) . I started microscopy in my early teens with a turn of the century (19th to 20th) brass monocular scope. I spent many enjoyable hours with it and it solidified my interest in biology and m...

So I guess I must examine my lens more carefully to see if the surrounding mask is still intact?

A new AO objective design!?

I purchased an AO 40/.66 plan achro on ebay. Cat # worn off. It has an odd dimple right in the center of the first lens. I had assumed that it was damage but now I have seen another lens advertised that seems to show the same thing. Does anyone have any thoughts about this? It is not an odd reflecti...

I am currently using a variable ND camera camera filter over the light well but it is not my preference. Thanks for the suggestion.

Looking for ND filter set for AO20 turret

The AO20 came new with three different densities in the lower turret. They measured approx. 1.25 inches. Looking for all three.

Re: Diatom

When working with SEM photography I frequently encountered this illusion. I believe it is caused by the brains expectation that things are illuminated from above. This causes problems if things are illuminated ambiguously as is often the case with the SEM.. or lunar landscapes. I always rotated imag...

Re: Help! I'm becoming "domesticated"!!

If you have a PC with a usb3 port I would recommend the Omax A3550U3 5MP camera. It comes with good software and runs around $220 on Amazon. This can fit as is in an eyepiece tube or in the "parfocal AO tube" sold on eay.

Sorry for the thread drift

To wrap up this thread : It turned out that a small upwards adjustment of the stage was all that was required to fix my problems. Thanks for all the input, it really helped! The forum is a fantastic resource.

Re: Setting up AO20: help reqd with Koehler

If I were to focus on the leaves with a blank slide it would lift the slide by several tenths of a millimeter or more. If I start to raise the stage I am almost sure I will hit the 100x objective on the slide. I have never used a scope that seemed to have no room for error. It seems to me there must...

Re: Setting up AO20: help reqd with Koehler

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately the specimen is right way up, in focus and no filters.

There is a lens in the base and the field diaphragm itself but I am reluctant to start playing under there until I have exhausted all other options.

Thanks again.

Setting up AO20: help reqd with Koehler

I am setting up a new to me AO20 and something is wrong that is outside my limited expertise. I am using a 1240 turret with its 1242 condenser lens. I have removed the lower doublet as indicated in the manual I downloaded for the scope. It appears to be properly secured in the yoke. The problem is t...

Re: ISI/Akashi WB-6 scanning electron microscope

I just ran across this post and my information may be a bit late and a bit sketchy but here goes. I ran an SEM lab in the'70s thru '90s. I believe the ISI is of this era. If memory serves it was a "desktop" instrument. If it has a column length of less than a meter then this would be the case. I cau...
