How to clean the optics and the microscope?
My microscope has not arrived yet, however, upon arrival it needs cleaning. It is a Krüss Optronic MBL 2100 (see the link to pictures below). How can I clean the eyepieces and the objectives without damaging them? Are there specific tools and detergents made for this purpose? The stage itself looks ...

Re: Is photo eyepiece the same as the microscope's eyepiece?
Can we consider the photo eyepiece as a combination of viewing eyepiece and a mini lens to mimic the human eye's lens so that at the end the image is covers the sensor properly?
Do we get the same magnification obtained through viewing eyepiece if we use photo eyepiece?

Is photo eyepiece the same as the microscope's eyepiece?
In the blog (http://www.microbehunter.com/connecting-a-camera-to-a-microscope/) it's written that either we can perform afocal photography in which a camera (including its lens) is in front of the eyepiece of the microscope or we can directly connect a camera (without its lens and without the micros...

Inverted microscope vs upright microscope
I want to know if an inverted microscope has any advantage over an upright microscope. I know that an inverted microscope is better to observe the cultures in which the sample sinks to the bottom and the optics of an inverted and upright microscope looks same. However, are there any advantage for an...

Re: Used microscope suppliers in Europe
Does Olympus (or Nikon, Zeiss, Leica) itself sell their used microscopes? Would be very surprised if they do. Their focus is on selling new microscopes to institutions. What happened to the Olympus BHC? Was the seller not willing to bring the price down? I am still thinking about getting that one (...

Re: Nikon alphaphot or Olympus BHC
Your smartphone, secured in a holder, should fit nicely on the Olympus BHC trinocular head. You may want to look for a photo eyepiece for it. It's the better choice of the two if you want phase contrast. The Olympus "short barrel" objectives can be quite good despite their age and the microscope sh...

Re: Nikon alphaphot or Olympus BHC
Do you want to take pictures (digital, likely) at some point? If so, I'd want plan achromat lenses, a trinocular head, and the phase contrast objectives and phase condenser complete in a microscope for about that price. Adding those things later to the Nikon will be expensive. I didn't look closely...

Old brand microscope vs new less famous brand microscope
I would like to know your opinion about which is a better option? Should someone buy an old (~30-40 years old) brand microscope (Olympus, Leica, Carl Zeiss, Nikon) or a relative new microscope from less famous manufacturer such as Bresser or alike? I was thinking that as technology improves making g...

Re: How to recognize a phase contrast microscope?
The BHC is from the 1970's era. From what I see, it has a phase contrast condenser (unless optical components inside the condenser are missing - but that would be contrary to the disclaim by the seller). The objectives are short barrel, about 36mm focal length. The 10x, an 40X and the 100x objectiv...

I would like to buy the microscope here: https://www.marktplaats.nl/a/audio-tv-en-foto/optische-apparatuur-microscopen/m1326880506-olympus-bhc-microscoop-phase-contrast.html?c=9b26ed2a557deff636f4f8b9c5b7a618 .
