Re: Ortholux tube lens

Thank you for the very informative responses. I have abandoned the plan to use infinity lenses on the Ortholux and just stick to what I can easily use.

NF eyepiece

I was looking on ebay and I found 2 sets of Leitz Periplan eyepieces but one set were NF. Does anyone know what NF stands for?

Ortholux tube lens

I was reading recently about mechanical length with regard to the Leitz Ortholux and I was wondering 2 things: 1) is the microscope useable without the 1.25x tube lens and 2), is there a tube lens that would allow the use of infinity eyepieces with the Ortholux?

Hi, I just ordered a smartphone polarizer sheet with the idea of using it to add polarization to my Ortholux. Has anyone done anything similar?

Leitz binocular head teardown

Hello all. Does anyone know of a repair or teardown manual for a Leitz binocular head. The head is from an Ortholux 1 but I think the SM had similar construction. The head that came with my ortholux needs some serious internal cleaning (as in separating prisms to get to dirt and mould cleaning). Luc...

Beautiful! I don't have DIC and have only recently started investing in phase contrast additions to my vintage Leitz microscopes. These phase contrast photos have definitely given me something to aspire to.

Hi dlthomas, I have seen the condenser holders for sale on ebay: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/LEITZ-GERMANY-CONDENSER-HOLDER-MICROSCOPE-PART-AS-PICTURED-39-A-27/153425647095?hash=item23b8e195f7:g:YlYAAOSw87JcQ-pT The mismatched set is common but again, ebay often has these objectives for sale. Re: Hi! Memphis, TN, USA NEED ORTHOLUX HELP!

Hi. The first thing I did when I ordered my ortholux off ebay was to hunt down an LED retrofit from retrodiode.com (check ebay for his sales). the LED actually arrived before the microscope itself arrived. What else is missing form your ortholux? Post some photos and maybe some of the guys here can ...

Mounting media

I wish to start creating some more permanent mounts and I have come across a hurdle. Namely, I can't seem to find a supplier for any mounting media in Canada. Most of the sites I have visited cater only to institutions and will not deliver to a residential address. Does anyone out there have any sug...

Re: Finally, I got an ortholux

Thank you very much and thank you for the link. There is a lot of useful information there. Hi Aslan, congratulations to your new heavy weight microscope! They must have been outrageously modern when they came out in the late 1930s and they are especially durable without mechanical problem areas. Le...

Finally, I got an ortholux

I have always wanted an ortholux, ever since I first used one in graduate school in the late 80's. Even then they were old but I loved the styling and of course the optics were superb. I could never have afforded one then so I got, for me, the next best thing, an SM microscope that I still use and l...

Re: Leitz ortholux to SM adaptatation

Thank you to all for your replies. I did some exploratory dissection on the head only to discover that the prisms are attached to the base I want to replace. It might still be possible but it is beyond my capabilities. I am going to end up putting up the trinocular up for sale on ebay.

Leitz ortholux to SM adaptatation

Hello everyone. I was thinking of modifying an Ortholux trinocular head for use on an SM microscope. Before I commit to surgery I was wondering if anyone else has had any experience doing such a thing. Essentially I want to remove the small piece at the bottom of the trinocular head and replace it w...
