Re: Leica Stereozoom 6: dirty lens
I bought Cerium-oxide. Circa 0,5-1,0 micron. And did the experiment. Make a paste from the Cerium-oxide and distilled water. Used an Dremel polish + PEC pad at top. And polish for ~ 20 minutes. After the polish The glas was much better, still not as new. Unfortunately, it was only possible to proces...

Re: Leica Stereozoom 6: dirty lens
The Leica Stereozoom 6 was the binocular was the one with the damaged lenses. I also found same binocular with name Bausch & Lomb (exactly the same) ; these lenses where nearly perfect clean. I compare these 2. In sharpness there is not a big difference. The Leica has less contrast, slightly more af...

Re: LED bulb for Wild M20
I now realise that I am also vintage. An LM317 is a longstanding part in electronics. Well, I also likes to work with electron tubes, then every semiconductor is soon 'modern'. Your tip on the ON Semiconductor website is very valuable. There are indeed nice chips for LED applications, better then LM...

Leica Stereozoom 6: dirty lens
I was cleaning up at work (Middle school) today. And at my surprise I found three nice old binocular microscopes at the bottom of a cabinet. Well with some backward maintenance. I start the repair of the first one now. It is a Leica Stereozoom 6. Mechanically this is fine if I put new grease in it (...

Re: LED bulb for Wild M20
The 28 mA is the measured value (not calculated). There was a diode bridge between the 12V DC and the LED, which also has voltage drop. That is the reason I think that the calculation based on DC is different then what I did. The advantage of the diode bridge is that you can use both AC or DC and th...

LED bulb for Wild M20
Original 6V 15 W bulb for this Microsscope is a bit rare. So make an LED light as replacement seems better. I made the holder on my lathe. Thought the plastic was Polypropylene. In front a disc aluminium as cooling for the LED. As an LED I used the much too expensive Philips car LED lamp 6000K (nr 1...

Re: LED for Nikon Labophot Dual View (Teaching) head
You are absolutely right. Using the aluminum can here as a heat sink is much better. The reason I didn't do it is that there was no heat sink in the IKEA LED either. So it seemed unnecessary to me I bought the LED for around € 3.- So that's low. You can find the LED I used easy if you Google for: JA...

LED for Nikon Labophot Dual View (Teaching) head
Here my upgrade for a Nikon Labophot Dual View (Teaching) head The original lamp for the arrow pointer was missing so I made a LED lamp myself. Anyone who can work with a lathe can make it Here a few building tips Start with an aluminum cylinder from 18 mm length and a diameter from 17 mm. Drill a 1...

Re: Opening and closure Stoma
Thanks ! Very interesting literature! I am going to try to find the plants that they use. The CO2 method also seems useful to me. That's I'am going to try also Today I bought the advised Bergenia and made some slides. sadly ; this is not an good plant for seen stoma. I get very difficult an epidermi...

Opening and closure Stoma
I work as a science/biology technician at a school in The Netherlands. I want to show my pupils the opening and closure of a Stoma. Theoretical is good described and shown in great pictures for example at wikipedia . But seen this in practice is much more difficult. I can make good microscope slide ...
