Re: Stereo Darkfield Condensers and LED ring lights (stocking stuffers?)

My DF condenser arrived today. I have to say I'm impressed. Somehow, I was expecting a plastic/more flimsily constructed unit - not anodized aluminum. Thanks!

Re: B&L Balplan/Microzoom II light path selector

That'd be awesome. A brass sleeve would definitely be a "cleaner" solution than the tube I'd end up cobbling together from random aluminum scraps and m42 extension tubes.

Re: B&L Balplan/Microzoom II light path selector

I don't remember all the details unfortunately, but I had an empty tube I got as part of a microscope parts lot, no optics just the right 1 1/8 inch tube at one end and a 23mm eyepiece hole at the other. I put an eyepiece in and used a standard 1 inch clamp adapter to put a dslr over it. It worked ...

Re: B&L Balplan/Microzoom II light path selector

That is a mounting point for one end of a toggle spring, that provides the two positive setpoints for the prism position, i.e., in the light path or out of the light path. Yours is missing, which is OK, as the lever and prism will still work; they just aren't held in the in or out position very wel...

Re: B&L Balplan/Microzoom II light path selector

No, just a prism moves with the lever. Where exactly is this threaded boss? Thank you. I figured I had something wrong in the camera setup, but was afraid this scope was missing something critical. I'll keep working on the camera adapter. Here's an out of focus photo of the boss I mentioned. https:...

B&L Balplan/Microzoom II light path selector

Quick question - on the rotating prism assembly for the B&L trinocular head, p/n 31-18-79, are there supposed to be any optics that move into the path for the camera port? I'm having trouble forming any sort of image, even using a B&L focusing tube/camera adapter (which should be the correct unit ba...

WTB: Olympus Neo / NeoPlan objectives

I'm not in any rush, but I figured I'd put a feeler out. I'm looking to replace the abused incident light objectives on an Olympus Neopak N stand. Ideally I'd like to find 5X, 10X, and 40X NeoPlan objectives, but I'm not sure if the 5X was ever offered in NeoPlan. I would also be interested in Neo 1...

Re: C. Reichert 100x fluor oel-iris objective

I've been eyeing the Zeiss Jena iris objectives, as well as Lomo water immersion, but this one popped up for even less. At the price, I figured it was worth the risk. It just happened to coincide with another great deal on the Tiyoda. Worst case scenario, I'll use it on a different microscope later ...

C. Reichert 100x fluor oel-iris objective

Due to somewhat of a impulse buy (at what I feel was a great price), I am now in possession of a Austrian Reichert objective (100/1.30 160/0.17 fluor oel-iris). Thing is, I don't have a Reichert microscope or any matching optics... I don't often use high magnifications - most frequently I rely on a ...

Re: Adhesive to bond slides for "micro-phototank"

I'm viewing from the angled sides (the angle helps cut reflections). I'm not so much worried about light being blocked from the bottom bond, just how much of the adhesive is on the sides (the meniscus?). I have been using a glass petri dish for vertical viewing. However, to do this the fish has to b...

Re: Adhesive to bond slides for "micro-phototank"

IMO, silicon rubber adhesives like RTV are the best for your purpose. Their advantage is that they are sealants, whereas UV-curing adhesives are mechanically stiffer, but are not sealants. Note, though, that the full curing of RTV takes time: at least a day or two, depending on the temperature. Als...

Student microscopes - Leica BME, AO/Reichert 160, and Swift 400 w/ phase contrast

I've decided that I should find a compound microscope that will better suit my needs, but I need to "free up" some funds before I can move forward. So, I'm listing many of the scopes that I picked up at a recent auction. Feel free to make an offer on any of them. I have 2 of the Leica BME microscope...

Adhesive to bond slides for "micro-phototank"

I need to put together a few more mini/micro phototanks together for fish/aquatic invert examination and photography. I've already built 2 using silicone, and have found that there isn't sufficient strength to keep it all together well enough to withstand transport (without overly intrusive bonds). ...

Re: Head compatibility/availability for Leica BM E

I put in a low bid and ended up missing out on it. I figure it won't hurt me to hang on to one of the Leicas and wait to see what I can find. In the meantime I can use one of the swifts (or continue looking for another scope). What features/characteristics should I be looking for in a trinocular/tea...

Re: Head compatibility/availability for Leica BM E

apochronaut - I put in a bid. At that price, I figure it is worth trying to play with, the seller happens to be local as well. Thanks for spotting that one! PeteM - There's nothing wrong with the optics on the Swifts - they produce a clear image and are fairly crisp. They just come off as a bit more...

Re: Head compatibility/availability for Leica BM E

Are you looking for a binocular for the Leica? I might have one... A binocular head would be nice, but isn't an absolute necessity. I'm really after a teaching head, which takes up marginally less space and allows the simultaneous use of a camera, but honestly could just use a camera adapter on the...

Re: Head compatibility/availability for Leica BM E

...you would need to measure the max. and min. width plus the depth of the dovetail....mm would be best. The max dia is ~42mm (41.85mm w/chamfered edge) the min dia. is ~36mm (measured @36.11mm but calipers were not quite thin enough to fully contact the base). Height/depth of 7mm. It seems to be r...

Head compatibility/availability for Leica BM E

I'm positive that it is a highly desired option, and may be difficult to find, but I am looking for either the teaching viewing body or trinocular viewing body to fit a Leica BM E. I've searched a bit and found that the CM E microscopes use the same viewing bodies (and other parts), but was wonderin...
