Re: Hydra and Bosmina = Gulp and Burp

Hi Kurt! My closest pond is almost completely dead. People always say that even the most gruesome looking ponds are teeming with life, but my local pond is dead as a dodo. I pushed litres and litres of it through a plankton sieve this week and found two diatoms. I have been trying on and off for sev...

Re: Stentor video

75RR, I cheated and bought stentors from Sciento, I have cultured them in boiled pond water with some cooked wheat grains in it for further use. I don't know what the jazz track is, it's just one of the royalty free ones youtube offer you when yu upload. They used to show the track name underneath t...

Re: Rhabdonema adriaticum (Diatom)

Looks like shreddies (a breakfast cereal in the UK), very fine work. I adore DIC, one day I shall have a DIC scope. Until then I shall continue to ogle other peoples' images.

Stentor video

I spent today arguing with computers and software. I haven't made a video for ages so I had forgotten some of the idiosyncrasies such as my camera refusing to download anything onto my NAS drive directly and crashing the network. I got there eventually though, so here is my Stentor video. I shall ma...

Re: Hello, fellow humans!

Hi Charlie! I remember you. The yahoo groups did become a little tedious, I still get two thousand or so emails a day from Yahoo despite repeatedly unsubscribing. They have their own special spam folder. Yes, Stentor coeruleus . Very pretty. I shall take more pictures and edit them a wee bit later on.

Re: Hello, fellow humans!

Ah, well by modern I mean not brass. Cooke, Vickers. Nikon S etc. I have lot of 1950s to 1970s microscopes. I think my most modern microscope is a Leica DM which I rescued from a skip. It is in perfect working order but I hardly ever use it because it's too large for my bench which is taken up by my...

Hello, fellow humans!

Hello all,I have been around various microscopy forums and facebook groups for a while, mostly facebook so some of you may know me. I have been finding facebook distracting and unhealthy recently so I have decided to register here instead. My name is Penny and I live in the UK, I have a collection o...
