Re: Reichert Polyvar

How goes your restoration? I'm curious to hear about the progress you're making! :) It went well initially, I think I have all the parts and optics in hand now, including a functioning IK condenser. Then life got in the way and I didn't have a proper space for assembly and use of the scope. However...

Re: My new (to me) Wild M10 & Leica Rotterman Contrast base

Congratulations on your M10! It took me years to find my first M10 so I know the feeling. You have a nice setup. It's nice to know someone who could do some custom machining to make your adapters. You mentioned that you have a "Wild/Leica filter slider unit for stereos". Do you have a part number f...

Re: Wild M3Z Type S and Kombistereo

That all tracks. The reference focal length of the m3z is 100mm, so 2x is going to give you a 200mm tube lens focal length. Incidentally I have an optem 10x/0.45 HR objective which Leica rebadged for use on their macro/stereo fluorescence setups (z series macrofluo and the fluocombi, the descendant...

Re: Wild M3Z Type S and Kombistereo

Is thr spacer for the objective permanently affixed? I'd be tempted to pick up a longer parfocal objective with a larger field of view like this RMS mitutoyo clone from Seiwa https://www.ebay.com/itm/175059560631 Wild stereos are essentially non-compensating so a neutrally corrected objective will ...

Re: Wild M3Z Type S and Kombistereo

Update: the 1.5x achromat is not a good match. It has too short a working distance: when in focus, the compound lens front element comes extremely close to the subject! Definitely not good, and is not close to parfocal either. The best match is a standard 1x achromat which is close to parfocal. It a...

Re: Wild M3Z Type S and Kombistereo

Thanks for the tips guys! Like you said, it was an easy and straight forward job. Now swapped. As I expected, Kombistereo really does not work with a 0.5x achromat stereo lens. The compound lens, which is a Leitz Plan L 25x/0.40 infinity, is "antifocal" with that, you have to scroll the focus for ag...

Re: Wild M3Z Type S and Kombistereo

Well, I tried but this is as far as I could get.

The cluster of screws in this first image seems a bit daunting. I have no idea which of these could/should be unscrewed to get further without causing problems.

Wild M3Z Type S and Kombistereo

Hello, I would need to swap a Wild M3Z optics body from a Type S carrier (the one that provides axial option for photography) to a Wild Kombistereo carrier (the one that switches between a normal stereo objective and a Leitz compound objective). However, I can't see any apparent way how to detach th...

WTB: Wild M5A stereo eyepiece tubes & objective

Hello, I am looking for the two eyepiece tubes that are screwed onto the binocular head of a Wild M5A stereo microscope. I am also looking for an objective for a Wild M5A. Maybe the objective for the previous iteration, the original Wild M5 in beige/yellow paintwork is identical with the M5A? To mak...

Re: Wild Heerbrugg M8 scraping noise on zoom

I'd carefully try to remove any remaining grease and wd40 residue with petroleum ether or lighter fluid before relubricating. wd40 is likely to kind of resinify after a short period. I am using synthetic watch libricants from moebius. For the rods i even switched from using grease to thin oil (Synt...

Re: Developing a course on microscope use

This is always a good idea. To what magnification do the stereos take you? The StereoDiscovery.V20 goes to 225x but we also have the PlanApo S 3.5x mono attachment for it, which takes mag to 525x using the 10x/23 eyepieces. Probably quite a bit of empty mag when you go that high. On the revolver, t...

Yep. I think this base is optimal. The newer versions have a couple more bells and whistles but mostly they don't bring any important gain in functionality. My new (to me) Wild M10 & Leica Rotterman Contrast base

Haven't yet got the courage to attempt removing anything else. At least I now have access to the big ...

It lookse like no. 88 would allow ob...
