Very interesting behavior, if not mysterious, at least to me. Thanks to 75RR to giving some possible insight as to what these guys are up to. I'm guessing you did not watch to the end to see happened? Cheers. -Norm

Good to know, Sauerkraut. Let us know how it works and if you can post some pics, that would be all the better. Cheers! -Norm That's funny. I actually had one rotifer that escaped out from under the cover slip and swam around in the free water at the edge for a while. I recently ordered a stain kit ...

Those buggers are for sure quick. I had to put a cover glass on top to slow him down. I could have taken a piece of paper towel to draw some of the water out from the slide to further slow him down. Cheers! -Norm

Very interesting article, Sauerkraut. The fact that they can dry up for years and then come alive again, when hydrated, is unbelievable. I found this guy in one of my overwatered plants the other day. Cheer! -Norm

You are correct, apochronaut, it would not be in the same condition if I sent it back, it would be in better condition. I can certainly put it back to where it was :). But, I do hear what you are saying. I will need to call Zeiss tomorrow and give them a part number to see if there is and how much a...

Re: I Should Have Known Better, Shame On Me...
Thanks 75RR. I should have mentioned that I have the Axiovert 25C, which has the camera port on front. Cheers! -Norm eBay does not show any Axiovert 25 sold recently so I really don't have a baseline on what is fair. Here is one: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=Axiovert+25&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=&_sac...

Re: I Should Have Known Better, Shame On Me...
Thanks Bob. The scope came in an oversized box that was not damaged. It was indeed well packed. But, who knows? In order for the prism to separate from the base (it has three dabs of glue holding it down), it would have had to suffer a jar of some sorts. Admittedly, I was surprised that there was no...

I Should Have Known Better, Shame On Me...
Well Good Folks, I bought a second scope to accommodate my Olympus CX22 LED. I won an eBay auction on a Zeiss Axiovert 25, advertised to be in "tested and fully functioning," condition and received it today. Well, I know you see it coming, it was not "...fully functioning." There are a few things wr...

Just came upon this thread and have to applaud desertrat for doing a great job of fabricating a part that is not likely to be found easily or could be found at all. I've always had great respect for people who are able to do this kind of stuff. Great job and thanks for sharing, now I have a source f...

Thanks, coominya, I’ll keep that in mind. I’ve seen a few with the letterings rubbed off for sure when looking for one on eBay. Wonder why Olympus didn’t use better paint? Cheers! -Norm A nice unit to be sure norm. I bought something a while back with the same objectives, and a tip for you, is be ge...

Re: Tips on Buying a Microscope and suggestions for What to look at
Simply amazing, Rob. Thank you for posting, very informative, very inspiring. As someone who hasn't touched a microscope since biology class in the early 80's, I've recently became curious again and picked up microscopy as an amateur hobbyist. Sort of goes hand in hand with a different passion of mi...

Re: Opinions Wanted: Nikon Diaphot
Thank you for the insight on what to test for, Kurt. Now that you've mentioned it, all the photo's I've been of the Diaphot was of the unit itself, really no reference point as to how big it is. I just downloaded the Instructions manual for the TMD and nowhere did I see it mention the dimensions and...

Re: Opinions Wanted: Nikon Diaphot
Thanks Kurt, I do understand where you're coming from, certainly, I have to be accountable for my own decisions. My experience thus far is limited, just trying to get more data points from more experienced members. While my first scope (Olympus CX22 LED) is a nice one, I wonder if I may have rushed ...

Re: Opinions Wanted: Nikon Diaphot
Thanks, Kurt, your input is very helpful. It does come with 3 objectives, the seller did confirm. My budget for a second scope is around $1K. I'm just an amateur, hard to justify $5K, the wife would likely try to collect on life insurance at that point :P . DIC would certainly be nice and comes at a...

Hello Kurt, I appreciate your response on the Diaphot. I tried to PM you, but for whatever reason it just stayed in my outbox, no way of actually sending it. Opinions Wanted: Nikon Diaphot
Hello Folks. I am looking for a second scope, mostly for marine organisms. Anyone own this microscope and can comment (negative or positive) on whether buying this 80's vintage microscope is a good idea? Are obtaining replacement halogen bulbs problematic? Anything specific I should focus in on when...

Very nice detail and structure. Seems the diatom is just leisurely on his merry little way. Out of curiosity, if I may ask, how are you coupling your µ43 camera to the microscope? Cheers. -Norm
