I doubt I'll ever move my E800 again and I doubt it weighs as much as those.

Olympus AX70/80/MX80
After lifting two MX80’s up a flight of stairs, the AX70’s and even the one AX80 feel so light weight. Amazingly feather light. On another note, yes under pressure I’d be the second one to admit that mistakes were made. There is one more AX80 at a delivery depot waiting and two AX70’s create in stor...

Re: Makeshift vibration isolation?
Anyway, good information and ideas. I definitely need to do more to dampen vibration. Unless I come across a suitable granite slab, I think I'll take a workbench that has a 2-inch wood top and simply bolt weights to the underside--I have a collection of no-longer-used barbell weights that might wor...

qualitative difference between infinity corrected objectives
So Olympus is 180mm, Mitutoyo is 200mm, and Edmund Optics/ThorLabs has 150mm. Somewhere I'm told that the large that number the more stable the image is for putting a sensor somewhere along there. But I never really understood that.

Do you anything about AX80s? I have a damaged one. The guy shipped it in a tight fitting box with no padding. The photo unit metal is bent up. I have AX70s but this is my first AX80 with the hardwired photo unit.

Re: Axiomat Objectives
What I'm trying to understand is that between two objectives that need to pair with telan lenses 164.5mm and 250mm respectively, there appears to be something in the signal between to the objective shoulder and the telan lens that makes this pairing necessary. So somehow in the angle or image diamet...

Re: Axiomat Objectives
Based on the performance of Axiomat objectives when adapted to an Axioscope, they require a telan lens closing in on a 250mm focal length, maybe a little less. I don't know what the reference length of an Axiovert is : the same as an Axioscope; 164.5mm? So how do you find that out? I was worried ab...

Will the Zeiss M27 44 ## ## objectives work with the Axiomat tube lens? I don't know what corrections are in the optical path of the Axiovert versus the Axiomat.
And what about the 42###-9### ones?
It looks like Axiomats are 46 ## ## model numbers.
Thanks,

Is there a table of what Zeiss objectives go with which Axioplan? For example, I have a couple Axioplan 2's. They don't have heads though. So I'd like to find the right trinocular and objectives, especially if their objectives have corrections in them. I thought, maybe hoped, the same Axiomat object...

Speed of light through Glass
Why does light slow down in water? There are many mysteries of physics for which you can find explanations online and some of those explanations are wrong. In this video, Fermilab’s Dr. Don Lincoln takes on the mystery of why light travels slower in water and glass. He lists a few wrong explanation...

Re: Spectrophotometer for Microscope CX23 OLYMPUS
Is this just a 50/50 camera option with one of Olympus's cameras? I would have thought there would be a slider rod. Unfortunately, the white background is too diffuse for me to enhance an image of the opposite side from the background data like there would easily do in NCIS or CSI.

Re: Spectrophotometer for Microscope CX23 OLYMPUS
So I tried to CSI pixel enhance the sticker label. Unfortunately though, there is no reflection of a killer's face on the side of random shiny car in the picture. So the "enhance" tools struggle with the linear and easier scale and skew transformations. If only the image were low res with more noise...

Re: Epi illumination without Dichroic mirror maybe?
I know it sounds daft...but have you tried a coverslip ? Slides and coverslips can serve as (less than optimal) beam splitters, but they do not perform the separation in wavelength between reflected and transmitted light, that is the essence of a dichroic mirror. Seemed like the original poster was...

Re: Epi illumination without Dichroic mirror maybe?
I know it sounds daft...but have you tried a coverslip ? Camera set-ups use a sheet of glass, so a microscope slide or, as suggested, a cover slip would project the light and yet give a good image. The light source might have to be brighter is all. But in the camera rigs, ghosting doesn't seem to b...

They are like that. That is the out position. You push them in against the slight spring resistance in order to engage the phase diaphragm centering hex screws. Ohhhhh. I didn't think of that. I just thought some inside snap washer had popped off both of them. Now it makes sense. It would have been...
