Re: Leica Reichert Jung Polyvar (models)

In my forty years of working in microscopy, I have never heard of or had defined what an “image circle” is relative to the image size. And frankly the description in this thread makes it even less certain. Apochromat, I can’t continue with this thread, you are conflating and confusing recognized mic...

Re: Leica Reichert Jung Polyvar (models)

F.N. is an arbitrary system. It is a code system stamped on some eyepieces, only some. There seems to be a begrudging compliance on the part of manufactuers. Maybe there is a reason? In existence, and you can look them up on ebay right now and find at least some of these, so they sre pretty common ...

Re: Leica Reichert Jung Polyvar (models)

I am now beginning to see how ts has been confusing. Scarodacyl’s is a fair description of what happens in a microscope system. If one were to take the eyepiece out of the system, with an infinity objective, with a bright enough light source the image would be projected to the ceiling. The magnifica...

Re: who has picture of this Reichert objective?

I have two of these objectives. It is difficult to image wihout glare, but i can tell you it says on the side. Plan 10x/0.25 bekow that printing is the infinity sign,/- np on one and a P on the other. Yours has the IK, all three labels were used to indicate strain free status. On the opposite side, ...

Re: Leica Reichert Jung Polyvar (models)

Phil, i need to do some of my own testing. i am not sure what you mean by Base 10. Our math system when using metric is base 10. I don't know the scale of the micrometer you are picturing, but it all of the images you took are with the 10x objective. The objective will see the same distance, that is...

Re: Leica Reichert Jung Polyvar (models)

I am trying to do the math and it doesn't work for me. IF you used a 1x objective with a 16mm FN , 15x eyepiece and put a stage micrometer in place, you would observe a 16mm FOV at 15x. If you put used the same objecive with a 10x/20mm FN, you would see a 20mm FOV at 10x. The object would appear to ...

Re: Leica Reichert Jung Polyvar (models)

When I reference the FN, I am referring to the field stop diameter of the eyepiece. If you had a 1x objective, with a FN eyepiece of 20mm, you would be able to observe a stage micrometer field of 20mm, if the objective was a 2x, the sample are viewed would be 10mm. It is just as important that the r...

All very good information, Wayne. You certainly fill in a lot of gaps. After you help out Pete, with his D.I.C. quest, could you comment on this. One thing I don't see factored in, is the objective distance to the telan lens. The reference focal length, probably the same referred to in patents as th...

Re: Leica Reichert Jung Polyvar (models)

There's an estimate in this thread that some models of Polyvar originally cost 'tens of thousands of dollars'. Does anyone know more precisely? Perhaps find an original price list. I've read that a fully specced Leitz Aristoplan had a cost of roughly 100 000 USD. I wonder what fully specced (DIC & ...

Being completely new to the Polyvar MET, what are the best objectives? I assume they made other Fluor's and APO's. My MET came with; Plan Fluor 50x/0.85 Epi Plan 20x/0.40 Epi IK Plan 5x/.0.10 Epi Plan 2x/0.04 -JWW: I assume you have the camera controller and power supply for the lamp? The most comm...

Thanks very much for that, Wayne. Re: Reichert U.S.A. and Leica. Why the undercorrection?

First let me clarify from my perspective the relationship the different factories had in the Leica family of products. Lots of points to reference here, I hope I can keep it straight. The Buffalo infinnity based products. those that carried the AO/Reichert-Jung branding, used uncompensated eyepieces...

Re: How to use the AO10 Teaching Head

If you unscrew the end of the pointer control, it looks like it has a flat headed screw slot on the very end, but that is for rotating the bulb inside the shaft for maximum intensity and homogeneity. You will gain access to the base of the pointer bulb. Take care not to lose the spring that contacts...

Re: WTB: 15X 184 eyepieces & trinoc phototube for AO10

I have a pair of 182 15x eyepiecesin New condition. Can't remember which product line they originated in, but keep in mind the eyepieces for the Series 10 were uncompensated and the usual max FD was 18mm. These would probably work with out any problem. If interested make a reasonable offer.

Re: has anyone used Leica S-APO 10x objective?

The 506289 objective was never a derivative of the Reichert Plan Fluor objective family. They came from two different factories, had different reference focal lengths and did not share optical design . The PL S Apo 10x objective has a 11mm working distance as compared to other Apo 10x. This is why t...

Re: AO Sterostar Prism

One of the biggest criticism of the StereoStar, especially from B&L dealers was there isn't an easy way to get into the body and do any alignment or adjustments to the optics. Of course, the argument of the day was with the StereoStar, you didn't need to do that, it stayed in alignment. LOL. As poin...

Re: AO 820 knife holder question

One other aspect to keep in mind is the type of knife that is employed. Typically the 820 used a C' profile knife for cutting paraffin embedded samples. When harder materials were cut such as bone or plastic embedded materials oft times a D' profile know was used. The C' profile used beveled edges o...

Leica retained the Leitz brand name and considered using it with the HM Lux as recently as 2010-12. However, I think it was only offered in markets outside of Europe and the US. The US felt that the branding would create confusion in the the market where the DM500 and DM750 educational platforms car...
