Re: Spiral shaped bacteriae

A very nice video! All of your videos are always very interesting and well-captured. :D I only know of two spiral shaped bacteria, Spirochete spp. and Spirillum spp. So the bacteria you found are probably one of the two - the difference is in the cell wall, motility mechanisms, and I think size, al...

Live Video Stream Test

https://www.twitch.tv/microscopelive

I am going to be live streaming with my microscope periodically on twitch.tv and maybe on youtube. Doing a test stream right now. If you don't have fast internet the video may buffer a lot because I have the settings on high quality.

Re: Uploading Video Files

Do you mean embedding videos? The forum just allows eazyzoom vimeo and youtube I guess. When you make the post click the youtube button and add the last part of the link. In this case- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jXEuIHY9ic add only 4jXEuIHY9ic in the brackets of

Re: The Dirty Cover Glass Blues

I actually really cut myself hand washing a slide once. Minor scratches with a cover glass once or twice. When I cut myself with the slide I was literally gushing blood I was like Jesus tap dancing christ. Wish I thought to look at it under the microscope.

Re: Compatibility of Microscope Cameras

Get a dslr because you can use them for the microscope as well as other photography. It's a vastly better option as long as you can get an adapter but the issue with that is you will likely need a custom 3d printed one. You can also live stream with a cellphone if you want a way to have the image on...

Re: My First Attempts at Digital Photomicrography

Does the microscope have a light adjuster for how much light goes to the trinocular port vs the eyepieces?

Re: My First Attempts at Digital Photomicrography

Does the adapter have optics inside it or is it an empty hole? For some reason your camera is clearly giving out images that are way too dark.

You can see it's vacuoles appearing and disappearing which suggests it's an amoeba.

Could also be that this gift might be better if a collaborative effort than a surprise?
I second that.
For the gift write a check that says for a microscope on the memo line or something

Re: About camera on a microscope

Every camera will give a different size image. So no the magnification will not look the same size as it does through the eye piece. But I believe cameras have their own zoom factor so the magnification will be similar to what you get with eyepieces but no not the same. When I use my 4/3 sensor dslr...

Re: About camera on a microscope

If you already have a smart phone just use that as a camera. From what I've seen those microscope specific cameras aren't very good. You either want a dslr setup or just a smart phone with an adapter.

Re: Could i get a cooler bulb?

If the issue is the brightness being too much on your eyes you can hook up a dslr to a computer monitor and not even have to use the eye pieces at all.

Re: Labeled Amoeba Pictures

That could be one. There are a lot of different types of amoebas. The one you photographed seems to have be the typical blob shape with pseudopods. But in your picture I can't make out any vacuoles or nucleus but regardless it does look like an amoeba. It never occurred to me that amoebas might move...

Labeled Amoeba Pictures

Are these labels accurate? Might be hard to tell with a picture but I haven't uploaded the video yet. I don't know which vacuoles are contractile or food but since the one's I didn't label food vacuole kept disappearing and reappearing I am guessing they were the movement vacuoles. edit: Actually al...

Re: Aeolosoma?

How did you get such good resolution? How did you get the subject to move so slowly? This is dic differential interference contrast which creates shadows filmed with some kind of dslr camera probably. Big worms usually don't move much. The worm is also huge which makes it easier for the camera to t...

Sample is from a pond water ecosphere jar. The jar has a lot of dirt in it which is why it has so much bacteria I think. I took this sample with an eye dropper in the middle of plants in the jar. So this bacilli is the species that grows from aquatic plants I guess. Same with the other bacteria I su...
