Re: Bausch & Lomb Type H, 1932-3...SOLD....

MichaelG - The professionals at the Stetten Museum are just that; professional. A whole lot of time and effort went into establishing provenance, and much of what is documented cannot be recorded for public consumption as it would intrude upon the Ozarin family and much of their history. Suffice it ...

Re: Bausch & Lomb Type H, 1932-3...SOLD....

The Curator at the Stetten Museum forwarded to me these links - Tweet: https://twitter.com/historyatnih/status/1204375379944755200 Facebook post: https://www.facebook.com/nihhistory/photos/a.176881072509498/1223142171216711/?type=3&theater I do not participate in either social media platform, but I ...

Re: Bausch & Lomb Type H, 1932-3...SOLD....

Happy Ending - as of today, November 5, 2019, Dr. Ozarin’s Microscope is now possessed by the Stetten Museum, NIH in Bethesda, MD. Having been in frequent contact with the curator over many weeks, and after fairly exhaustive research, I am 100% positive that this scope was purchased and owned by Dr....

Re: Bausch & Lomb Type H, 1932-3...SOLD....

Sounds like if it is going to a museum that being in a display cabinet meant for public viewing would be the ultimate outcome...what other, better options are there that I’m missing?

Re: Bausch & Lomb Type H, 1932-3...SOLD....

Bringing back this thread because I think the eventual outcome will be interesting: I had this scope sold, buyer backed out, and honestly got tired of attempting to sell. I am now donating this to the National Institute of Health Stetten Museum in Bethesda, Maryland. I have been on a quest to establ...

Re: UHL Rod Microscope

Why not email them and ask what their manufacturer’s suggested retail price is....at least you’ll be in the ballpark value-wise.

Re: Bausch and Lomb

Going to take a pretty good stab at the model, and I feel about 92% sure about it: it’s the B&L model BA-8 Medical Microscope. The were as mass produced as possible as there was a war going on, and metals were tightly controlled production-wise....although there would have been a need for more porta...

Also, some more research revealed that the device with the tubes and thin glass vials is called a haemacytometer which is used to count blood cells within a specific volume of blood.

Re: Bausch and Lomb

Your scope was manufactured in 1944 as the “V” is the letter code for that year. The “L” denotes the instrument type which is correct as a microscope. The last item I’ll need to know would be the magnification power on the triple rotating turret objectives. I’m guessing that they are 10x, 43x, and m...

Re: Bausch and Lomb

Towards the top of the scope there’s a flat area that should have a serial number engraved on it; could you please tell me what it is? Also, a slow, panoramic view of the scope would be really helpful for those of us who require a bit of detail....albeit, a less shaky version. It looks like a Type H...

Also heard back from Barry S. from http://www.microscope-antiques.com/ and while his information wasn’t necessarily good news, it was news to me; and that’s good. Check out his collection....just amazing!

Re: New Member from New York

I received correspondence from Fred K. from www.microscopeinternational.com and he shed some light on the B&L which is great. If I needed to access their services I’m lucky as they are local to me.

Re: New Member from New York

Hi Pete, My research also revealed the Olympus Asahi model, but it maybe the Pentax corporation which is associated with Asahi Optics Co. and their Asa Tokyo branded instruments. I’ve found some instrument examples online, and a wiki page about Pentax, but little else insofar as definitive knowledge...

New Member from New York

Greetings to all, I’m Mike, and I am a brand new member who seeks information and will happily reciprocate, in advance, some interesting history about two recently acquired microscopes which are temporarily in my possession. First, my disclaimer: aside from high school science class I have only rudi...
