Re: Where can I get a ringing table from?

I would agree that an eighth of an inch clearance could be problematic. It is not uncommon to have a coverslip shift during the curing of the mountant. That could present an issue on occasion. As to the idea of a motorized ringing table, I would suggest that it just adds an unnecessary layer of comp...

Re: Where can I get a ringing table from?

If you can lay your hands on an old VCR, you can make one very easily.

Re: Fossil Marine Diatoms in Brightfield

Thanks I used a digiscoping mount for the phone. Search Amazon for this: B0140U9ZPG It works well, a bit fiddly until you get it set up. Highly adjustable. The photos at the listing will give you an idea. I used it with both phones and small cameras with good success. As to the optional lens you ask...

Thanks Greg.

I have some of that polarizing film laying around here somewhere, I will have to give that a try.

Thanks

Maybe a Model 33?

You should be able to find it (try page 20 - and lots of other cool stuff) in here:

Re: Oblique Masks

The effect is more a cousin to brightfield than darkfield, but I mention it because it offers another way to expand your scopes capabilities with almost no cost. Oblique delivers images that show depth and relief which can offer some great insight into your subjects Here are a couple of threads with...

Re: Mask Carrier for Scopes Without

Yes.

You may find the closer you can get the filter or mask to the bottom of the condenser, tbe better the effect will be.

The great thing about DIY is the experimentation. Good luck.

Re: New to hobby and have some questions

There should be some way to position a mask for darkfield, but you may need to get creative.

Here is the approach I took for one of my scopes. Maybe it will inspire you.

Hey Pete I had the exact same issue when putting together my 20. Discovered the two versions with and without the stand offs. I wrote about it starting at entry 105 of this thread: http://www.microbehunter.com/microscopy-forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=776&start=90 Worth the bother though, great stand. G...

Re: Looking for a User's Manual for American Optical Epistar scope.

Welcome back, Rod! Your reappearance even lured Kurt out from his cave  Over at photomacrography, people would usually remove that epi scope's specimen stage and put a small multidirectional goniometer stage to precisely position opaque subjects (typically insects). Here is an example: htt...

Re: Looking for a User's Manual for American Optical Epistar scope.

Rod - don't know where you can find a manual, but the earlier industrial scopes (and I believe Xmission or someone has a manual for those) are essentially similar - certainly the same objectives. Looks to me like you could retrofit a condenser and transmitted illumination to that stand, perhaps usi...

Looking for a User's Manual for American Optical Epistar scope.

I am looking for a User's manual for this scope, An American Optical Epi scope. I believe it to be a model 1860 Epistar, but there is no badging on the scope identifying as such. I checked the Xmission AO pages - did not see what I was looking for there. I would be pleased with a PDF copy and willin...

Re: Slide ringing table

Hi Bob, I guess form follows function. As I mentioned, I followed Kurt's lead, and it works very well. I agree that some extra mass in the table is a definite advantage. The VCR head works very, very well for this purpose. Mine will spin for just shy of 2 minutes before stopping completely, and over...
