Re: Nikon SMZ-U - ED Vs Apo Objectives?

Ok so I may have been referring to the coaxial illuminator then! I do have the quarter wave plate but took it off as I wasn't actually using the illuminator for lighting the specimen (using fibre optics and ring light instead). So assuming lighting is ok, which I think it is, does the SMZ-U Apo obje...

Nikon SMZ-U - ED Vs Apo Objectives?

Hi there, I have an SMZ-U with the standard 1x ED Plan objective. It's a great setup and very pleased with it, image quality is great from 7.5 through to 75x, but I don't find it as pleasing with the 1.5x episcopic illuminator on, where I feel the image quality is a little degraded at the higher mag...

Re: Olympus AH Vanox- Weight, Camera Mount and LB objectives?

Thanks for the details, wow 70 pounds pretty much knocks it on the head, as the freight would be in the $100s. Currently it is sitting at under $50 usd and not receiving a lot of attention, but hard to say what the optical condition is. I already have the LB objectives, and used to have a BHT, so wa...

Olympus AH Vanox- Weight, Camera Mount and LB objectives?

Hi Everyone, I'm looking at an original Vanox, setup for Biological use with standard illumination lamp housing and the short plan objectives. It also has the PM10AK and film camera. It's a bit hard for me to ask questions regarding it, so not sure how well it's functioning except that it appears to...

Doing a quick eBay search they do seem to have made at least two styles of the tv 1x relay, though the only difference I immediately notice is how the text is put on them. I have one of them here and I can give you some exact measurements if I dig it up.
That would be superb!

Re: Nikon SMZ-10 - attaching camera to trinocular head

Thanks Scarodactyl, yes the 1x16 TV lens is the only one I can find information on, I wonder if it would actually work with the "SM" connecting ring in place. Looking at the manual I get the impression the TV lens there is a similar shape, but with a larger diameter rim around the top (see cut out b...

Nikon SMZ-10 - attaching camera to trinocular head

Hi, I've recently acquired a Nikon SMZ-10 trinocular body and have a stand on the way. The body came with the Nikon c-mount TV adapter but no relay lens and has the 0.6x designation on the SMZ-10TP head. I believe the 0.6x should match pretty well with the 2/3 sensor camera I have. I've done some br...

Nikon SMZ-10 stand diameter?

Hello Everyone, hope you're staying safe at the moment! I've just bought a Nikon SMZ-10 trinocular body online, without eyepieces or stand. I have some Nikon 30mm 15x eyepieces I want to pair with it, but need to acquire a stand from somewhere. The body is going to take a wee while to get to me and ...

Re: Using Camera without Intermediate Optics - Nikon SMZ-U

If you are tempted, I can see how i.Share works with my E-PL7. That's ok, I've been using it on the E-M10 and probably not ready to invest in another camera at this point with a few floating around! I've had a bit of dig around my various parts from previous experimenting and have figured out I can...

Re: Using Camera without Intermediate Optics - Nikon SMZ-U

I've added the simple adapter to Thingiverse, which can be found from the following link (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4161613). Credit for the bayonet fitting goes to hstahl, all I did was chop the Canon connection off and add the spacer and tube using Tinkercad online. As an aside, my cheap 3...

I having been meaning to write up my experiences and will start this weekend, over my birthday. :) In the meantime, I will measure and calculate the flange-to-flange distance I expect will make your adapter parfocal. ... Re: Using Camera without Intermediate Optics - Nikon SMZ-U

Hi John, the outer diameter of the tube that inserts into the camera port is 37.9mm, as confirmed by a caliper. It was printed as 38mm but this was pretty tight so I shaved it down a little.

For reference, this is the difference in the image through the objective versus from the camera. The eyepiece is the standard SMZ-U UW10xA/24. Re: Using Camera without Intermediate Optics - Nikon SMZ-U

Oh great, glad to hear I've stumbled on to a good way to handle it and nice to keep the whole setup a little more compact. I had tried with my now largely unused Canon 550D but couldn't figure out how I could make it parfocal and found the PC software to be rather clunky for determining exposure etc...

Using Camera without Intermediate Optics - Nikon SMZ-U

I have an SMZ-U with the dual camera port that I've restored from a fairly beaten up state. All is working well and I'm very happy with it, and I've now started trying to get a camera working on it. I have an Olympus E-M10 Mark II mirror-less camera with its 16mp micro four thirds sensor and experim...

Olympus CX40 Koehler Illumination Alignment

Hi everyone. I have a CX40 with what I believe to be the standard CH3-CD condenser. Unfortunately I don't have the auxillary lens to correctly centre the condenser, leaving the field iris out of alignment (when fully stopped down it appears too high and to the right). I'm assuming this will reduce t...

Re: Piecing together an Olympus CX40

Hi John, was the 20x the PLAN N version? I can see a nice and clean one for 65 pounds (in local currency though) without any bids on it. I've was already watching this objective but wasn't sure I wanted it. It went without bid for the same price and has now rolled over for another 5 days. I'm guessi...

Piecing together an Olympus CX40

Hi everyone, my first post so please go easy on me! I'm trying to set up an Olympus CX40 microscope, sourcing bits from here and there, not buying a complete scope. I'm not in any real hurry, sourcing microscope bits has become a bit of a hobby so mainly trying to chase deals! Used to have a CH-2, t...
