I've had great results using the cheapest polarising film I could find on eBay locally, about AU$3 to suit an iPhone 6 I think it was. I've had some success using a narrow-band astrophotography filter intended for use with a monochrome camera, an "O-III" filter, 7nm centred on around 500nm from memory. Transmission is quite low though so I have to run my led at full power (10w) but it really cleans up the image and improves contras...

It doesn't look like the illuminator in the OPs link would be much fun to adapt to a labophot 2. I had very good results converting my labophot 2 to LED illumination using a free xm-l2 u2 "star" mounted diode, I ordered a natural 4000k and cool 6000k (from memory) and much preferred the cool.
