A dinosaur egg

Hello everybody, I found what appears to be an egg of sorts, about 2-3mm in length. The outer shell is very pretty, made up of individual cells. Any idea what this coud be? It lives in a jar on my desk in water from a pond and various algae. magnification is 40x, photo taken on an APS-C sensor with ...

Some mosquitoes hatched in my jar

I keep a jar with pond water and some algae and to my surprise I found several mosquito larvae swimming just below the surface, and a few fully grown mosquitoes flying around. Luckily, lid was closed. So I knocked them out with smoke and was happy to see they’re nice and colourful: 2B6E1125-2188-427...

Re: A rather large egg-sack

Oh yes, it lives in my « swamp-in-a-jar ». I carefully placed it back and marked the spot for future observations. But, as with all things living, it seems to have moved and cannot see it anymore (3 days). Maybe they hatched already. Pictures will follow once I figure out how to display files from G...

A rather large egg-sack

Brought back some algae from the fishing pond and found a 5mm gelatinous sack with what look like eggs inside: http://drive.google.com/file/d/1fk7qQC-0oWiXPk7Ya-lxtJ03ndn5tS4U/view?usp=drivesdk I wasn’t sure whether it was alive or just some muck, so I slapped a cover glass over it (to have at least...

Headbanging, many legs

Rather large in size compared to other living things in the same sample. Not very active.
Anybody recognize this thing? Thank you for your help.

Re: Euromex MB 1051, Canon m6 (projection)

The 22mm camera lens leads to the circular image on the sensor with a lot of black around it. This is no big problem but you don't use all camera resolution that is available and have always to do a cutout to use a picture. In video mode some cameras use only a smaller inner part of the sensor imag...

Re: Euromex MB 1051, Canon m6 (projection)

40mm tends to produce an image with edges that almost hit the edge of the 10x eyepiece's field of view (when focused to infinity), giving you a nice near-optimal rectangle with no vignetting: https://i.imgur.com/NxqNpxF.png This is the entire image through a 10x eyepiece (taken with my phone camera...

Simple but good used microscopes sell often for really little money like 20-50€
When I wanted to buy a telescope long ago, I ran into the same problem: which one to buy. But then I decided to build one myself, which is - at least for me - not possible with microscopes.

That is way cool. Think I have similar creatures in my jar but mine are completely transparent. And i’ve never seen them feast like this. Excellent video!

I like optics. And fine mechanics. I come from astrophoto so the razor-thin dof in microscopy kills me. Lacking a proper camera accessory, i shoot with a mirrorless APS-C through the eyepiece (does this add magnification?). I’ll post details of the setup in the relevant section. Having great fun id...

Euromex MB 1051, Canon m6 (projection)

I acquire video through an APS-C sensor 22.3 x 14.9 mm with a 22mm lens f/2 (that’s the Canon m6 with the stock pancake lens). I set it so that it looks through the 10mm eyepiece of the Euromex MB 1051 sporting three objectives: 4/0.10, 10/0.25, 40/0.65 (160/0.17). The camera connects to an iPad whi...
