Leitz NPL Fluotar 50x/1.00 oel 160/- It's gooey with oil; an ebay novice was evidently breaking up an Ortholux. My only Leitz frame is an HM-pol, which is a 170 TL I understand that means the tube length error, when used with a "170" eyepiece which I have, is only about 2mm. A) is that right? B) Wou...

Meaning of Red dot on a Leitz eyepiece?
I have one which is a high eyepoint, which I believe means it's for afocal photography - is that right?
A second is on a plain-looking Leitz Wetzlar Periplan GF 10x eyepiece. What does the red dot on that mean?

Re: Identifying asbestos
I can't think what equipment to slice up, grind and polish rocks wouldn't be very large compared with this microscope. Also, it's a time-consuming business. The case is about 24 x 20 x 10 cm. Perhaps it would be for looking at insulation materials, etc. Otherwise why make it portable? It could be us...

Re: Identifying asbestos
Some time ago I bought a Lomo portable microscope, which is equipped for polarization work. It came in a fitted wood lined metal carry case, with the wedge and wave plates missing but I have managed to find the right ones, to fit their slots. It has the Bertrand lens in the upper part. They appear o...
