Re: Winter pond samples

These shadows are scratches on iphone camera lens glass. It is my very old phone that was stored in crowded drawer for years and developed this scratches as a result. They are not visible for high aperture openings, they start to be noticeable and annoying when you close it down. I will try to paste...

Winter pond samples

Hi, Recently I got really nice deal, basically 1/3 of retail price for a brand new Bresser Erudit DLX. I have aimed for better scope like used Nikon or Olympus, but given the price/quality ratio it was simply an excellent bargain and I could not resist :p Although it is still rather very basic micro...

Yeast Odyssey: 2019 ;)

Few weeks ago I made simple baker's yeast solution and sealed it under coverslip. Yesterday I have spotted a weird thing - I did not know that yeast can reproduce via hyphae... or sort of at least: 2019-12-20_0011_200X.jpg It also reminds me of Discovery spaceship from Space Odyssey movie series, so...

Re: Digitizing 35mm micro photography tranparency images

Hi, As an option for digitizing company I suggest to buy standalone scanner. Digitizing companies tend to mass scan slides/film rolls with one-fits-all preset. Outcome is fine for like some random old family photos, but If you want total control and professional effect than doing it by hand is the o...

Re: Algae colony?

I think I might have found the answer. My best bet right now is Haematococcus pluvialis . This would explain different stages at which I observed them. This is another example photo I took, among some small ciliates: 2019-12-11_0005_60X (1).jpg And these are different stages found online: fpls-07-00...

Algae colony?

Hi, I have recently viewed some water samples out of rotting red onion tissue. It is as usual - full of ciliates, tons of bacteria but also... lots of these round tiny (~15um in diameter) things: https://photos.app.goo.gl/tgwWe7FSYBZQuvM98 What are they? Most seem dead, very dark, solidified inside....

Bresser Biolux AL additional objectives

Hello again! I want to share my way of fitting additional achromatic DIN objectives into Bresser Biolux microscope. This semi-toy microscope has non-standard threading so I had to do the following: - take apart default 40x objective, really simple, body consist of just 2 screw parts and inside is a ...

Re: Hello from Warsaw

Hello Malpi, I have found disassembly really straightforward with no instructions. Having some mechanical experience from other fields, like general mechanics, car engines, etc. Chinese achromatics are really simple in my opinion, built like WWII tank. There are just a few screws. Lenses themself ar...

Re: Hello from Warsaw

Hi Bob, you might have a look for PZO microscopes, built in Warsaw until around 1990. The Mb-30 is a really nicely built instrument a Yes, I'm carefully looking for some nice PZO, Christmas time coming :D I remember back in my primary school days to use PZO in a classroom. It seemed very solid and h...

Hello from Warsaw

Hi - greetings to All of You :) Just want to introduce myself with brief note and some pics. I use modded Bresser biolux AL. I made some rather basic stuff observations so far, like onions, insects, yeast and dirty water samples. Microscope mods include: - additional objectives 60x and 100x (oil). T...
