Jumpy jumpy
This spidery critter was extremely difficult to capture in focus. I had my 8 y.o. son tracking it by moving the stage and looking through one eyepiece while I simultaneously was adjusting the focus while looking at the cellphone camera attached to the other eyepiece. It moves so quickly! 1A-30x-L3MU...

Re: Molting Time
You think? While editing it, I did think "hmmm, that shell seems to be moving independently."
Retitled it, after finding some other videos of similar. There's just always so much to learn!

Rotifer Birth
Edit: Thanks to 75RR for correcting me by pointing out this is a live birth!
Original post: This rotifer (?) surprised me by suddenly shedding its skin. First time I've managed to see that and didn't recognize the signs.

Re: want to help me check my IDs?
Thanks, Bruce! There's always so much to not know that you didn't know. :D Glad at least I was on the nose with Colpoda. It was my first "ooo, what's this I'm seeing?" in any of the samples. And I found a video where they were calling it a paramecium so I called it that for a while. Turns out there'...

Re: 10x eyepiece for 23.2mm tube that fits this 33mm smartphone holder?
The main reason I haven't pursued an adapter that would let me use regular eyepiece is that I also haven't seen any that do such a thing. It seems pretty non-standard. Maybe I should order this one, which seems like it'd fit a variety of diameters of eyepiece. Of course, it may fit lot of eyepieces ...

Re: 10x eyepiece for 23.2mm tube that fits this 33mm smartphone holder?
Then I'm not understanding, "I find the 20x lens it comes with to be a little too zoomed in..." It's a 20x, so it's twice as zoomed in as my 10x eyepiece that's on the other side of the binocular scope. So the focus point for one side is different than the other. And it's often much easier to find ...

Re: 10x eyepiece for 23.2mm tube that fits this 33mm smartphone holder?
I'm thinking that with a 10x you would see a circular image within the rectangular phone display. You'd then need to use the phone's zoom to fill the screen. The supplied 20x eyepiece is doing that for you, optically instead of digitally. Even with the supplied eyepiece, it's a circular image that ...

Re: AO 10 LED Conversion
Well, thanks for checking back in, anyway. I think I'm going to pass on the AO scope because I'd have to shell out for a power supply before even testing the scope to see if it was in good shape. If it was being sold for crazy cheap I might just buy it, but it's not.

Rotifer? Gastrotrich? From Mississippi river water taken from the bottom near the shore, in Minnesota. Magnification at 20x by 10x, and zoomed in a bit with a cellphone camera. Some coleps come zooming through near the end for helpful scale. I asked his neighbor the amoeba who this is, but he wouldn...

This came out of a sample from the Mississippi off the river bank bottom, in the middle of freezing Minnesota temps. It's been a bit over a week since I got the sample. We haven't figured this one out yet (20 by 10x): https://i.imgur.com/HHkngE4.png With some blurry coleps (they were buzzing around!...

want to help me check my IDs?
(Moved from the ID forum, because I think they're mostly IDed and I kind of wanted to just share the pics.) I've been trying to take pictures/videos on my Olympus KHC. My son and I have gotten better about IDing stuff. I have here a list of "stuff we think we know". Would appreciate any comments. ht...

10x eyepiece for 23.2mm tube that fits this 33mm smartphone holder?
I bought this phone holder recently: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KF57C5K I like it reasonably well, but I find the 20x lens it comes with to be a little too zoomed in. It'd be nice to have one that matches the other eyepiece in my binocular head. This would be nice because I could look thro...

Re: AO 10 LED Conversion
Kurt - Did you ever post any more information on the LED conversion? I'm looking at purchasing a AO with a dual-head on it from craigslist, which would be nice for my son and I to look at simultaneously. But it comes with a missing power supply so an LED would be the way to go.

Hello from Minnesota!
Greetings to you all. My 8 y.o. son and I got very interested in microscopy due to the recent Journey to Microcosmos youtube channel. We'd watch them together and talk all about the stuff that was showing up on screen (had to back it up many times to hear what THEY were saying about it). My son star...
