Re: Cleaning optical lenses

Although the Lumipan originated in the 30's, the design persisted long enough into the 50's that some of the optics produced for it, must have been coated. Although the theory of using contact polymers to clean lenses is sound, the practice of it requires a high degree of precision and knowledge of...

Re: Dismantling a Carl Zeiss Llumipan LPE microscope

Edmund Optics is the place, but the price per square meter is devastating! Good tip! :0) To replace the shrivelled polarizing filter in my microscope https://a-zproj.blogspot.com/2020/01/lumipan-microscope-from-1950s.html I intend to buy 25x25mm of the following (below) and cut it to somewhere betwe...

Re: Cleaning optical lenses

"I don't think it will remove gummed up immersion oil" I agree. I think the polymer is good for dust but there are several types of dirt I think your three alternatives are better suited for. To what degree the polymer is more useful that compressed air is a question still to be resolved. I've order...

Re: Dismantling a Carl Zeiss Llumipan LPE microscope

"Some 3D-cinema glasses" could be a source, not explored yet, so that's a good suggestion. I've tried to find polarizing sheets but what I found won't do in this context, they were for producing polarized light from spotlights. OK, I'll try the 3D glasses, that would correspond to what I was after. ...

Cleaning optical lenses

HI! I want to clean up my Carl Zeiss Lumpian LPE microscope real good. If I ever succeed to dismantle it without destroying it THEN I really want it to be ATOMICALLY clean. The absolute best solution to do this i using First Contact polymer goo. Of that I'm convinced. I'm also convinced they're tryi...

Carl Zeiss Lumipan LPE Microscope

Hi! When trying to find a remedy for the low image quality in my Lumipan LPE Microscope, I found that a polarizing filter in the bottom of the "ocular assembly" or "head" was shriveled, creating the irritating shadow in the pictures I took of some test glasses with pollen. The effect was so deleteri...

Dismantling a Carl Zeiss Llumipan LPE microscope

Hi! I'm interested in a way to dismantle my microscope to be able to clean (preferably) all lens elements. Especially the "head" (or "Tubusträgerkopf" as it's called in this document: https://www.amuseum.de/mikroskopie/Downloads/Zeiss_Lumipan_small.pdf ) where the oculars sit. My translation would b...

Re: Does a DSLR adapter need a lens in it?

[ This suggestion might classify as "off topic" depending on the degree of fundamentalism applied :0) ] If you're just looking for the cheapest, still very effective, solution to microscope photography AND you're the owner of a smartphone maybe this can be a solution: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2830...

Hello from Sweden!

My working life: 1978-1994, service engineer at Data General and 1994-2015 systems engineer at Örebro University. My occupation nowadays are programming, photography and wood working. I bought a Lumipan LPE from a flea market, a month ago, for around $150, in a wooden box an a complete set of lenses...
