Re: Ideas for a new microscope?

Hello peeps-my 2 cents worth-I reckon the student HM-Lux 3 is a very good travel scope-uses a common automotive light 6v 5 w .8 amps and is surprisingly bright-very light and if you get with the original case (super tough plastic) it’s an excellent traveller-I got mine for about $150 last year-love ...

Re: 160TL 60x-100x water iris objective

Hey zzffnn you might want to look out for this zeiss one-37 parfocal 63x .85 W.I I recently got from a German seller-I love this objective! No iris though. The immersion cleans up the softness that little bit of air between objective and slide introduces in a dry high 63x and I like how it’s a ‘norm...

Re: Your Favourite Objective.

I’ve got way too many objectives to easily pin down but for simple achromats I really like the short barrel Leitz 25x .5 and 45x .65-the 45x in particular with just a bit more mag but bit more depth of focus that usually quickly goes once you jump from 20x to 40x…oh and my Leitz 13x .4-again less co...

Excellent post once again apochronaut! The Hacker 80x .90 is impressive for such a high dry objective-will keep an eye out for one! The most recent Chinese objectives are pretty ordinary by any standards -are these cheapies?

retroDiode upgrade question

Hello peeps-does anyone know if these upgrades produce more lumens than the original lamp housing-most seem to be 800 lumens-is this definitely adequate for good darkfield and phase contrast for photography?
Are people happy with their retroDiode upgrades?
Any advice greatly appreciated

Re: What was this weird Leitz system used for?

The history of comparison scopes is fascinating-first used in an American court in the 1920’s-I read originally just the resultant photos were shown but the jury wasn’t having it-they trusted the idea of comparison scopes but felt wary of being shown just photos as the public was already aware that ...

Re: Problems with my Oblique Lighting

Hello Micro_UTRG -I’ve seen some really impressive results of oblique with quite low N/A inverted objectives (Leitz)-like 20x .30 and 40x .50 (!) I agree with Don -I think the lower depth of field of a standard 40x (.65 etc) makes darkfield and oblique a situation of diminishing returns-but don’t le...
