Re: my home-made phone camera mount
Thank's for the replies and advice. I would love to be able to look at my slides on a big tablet screen. I think the folks that want to see what I'm looking at would also appreciate the bigger screen) I think the extra weight of the tablet (combined with a holder) would put a lot of downward pressur...

Re: my home-made phone camera mount
Hi Daruosha,
I'm not very familiar with using forums, especially adding pictures.
Would you mind trying to open them by right-clicking and selecting "open in new window". and see if that works. It does on my computer.
If it doesn't work I'll try to copy the pics onto the message

my home-made phone camera mount
Hello all, Yesterday I made a holder for my Motorola G7 smartphone. It sits on the eyepiece holder of my Reichert Microstar IV scope, and does a pretty good job of providing a solid / shake free platform for taking pictures. It's constructed out of 1/4" tempered hardboard scrap that I had laying aro...

Re: Where to place filters in light path?
Thanks for the replies. mrsonchus, can you define "image congugate planes" . That is definitely sounds like something that I should understand. And for the blue filter, is that a filter specifically for your BX50? what size is it, and would I put that over "light Port" like with the camera filters, ...

Where to place filters in light path?
My Reichert Microstar IV has some broken light filter components. The blue filter has been removed (It's very common for them to break) and the Neutral Density filer has some "pitting". As a work around can I put new filters (maybe for photography) anywhere within the light path between the bulb and...

Re: Need advice buying a Reichert Microstar IV
No spacer / Shim in my condenser (as far as I can tell). And the ledge that the bottom lens rests on is black (not brass colored) and seems to part of the aluminum housing. How thick is the brass shim you have in yours? The blue filter was squeezed by the front and rear lens and it was not in there ...

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1F_2s--s-5cTHaB5McEweQYTF7wChx-vS I hope this image comes through....I've never used forum tools like this before. This is an ABBE aspheric 1970. The condenser came apart exactly as I have it laid out in the photo. outside lens, blue disk, inner lens, threaded...

Re: Need advice buying a Reichert Microstar IV
Thanks for the advice guys. The seller is working with me on this. If he refunds me some money I'll keep this one. Can you tell me about fixing some of the issues I have? 1) missing iris in the 1.25 abbe. Should I replace this with a different (better) condenser? Why was there a blue filter between ...

Re: Need advice buying a Reichert Microstar IV
Thanks JGardner, That makes me feel a little better. The Guy's Ebay store had both "Science" and "Professor" in the name, so I assumed he knew what he was selling :) DTSH, I'm definitely looking at an option of starting over. But, this may give me an opportunity to do some upgrades that I may have d...

Re: Need advice buying a Reichert Microstar IV
Thank you for replying to my questions. I shot a guy a low offer on ebay thinking that he would pass (or maybe counter), but he accepted. It came on Saturday afternoon. And now I'm reminding / convincing myself that I love to fix things....even though I thought I was buying something that was fully ...

Re: How to collect pollen samples?
Yesterday I let a clean slide sit on the roof of my car for about 8 hours. I had a few different pollen grains to investigate. They were very small. The cars around here are covered with pollen. I wonder if there is a way to get it from the cars to a clean slide. It's adhered to the body work pretty...

How to collect pollen samples?
Here in Minnesota USA the trees are just starting to bud, and the air is filled with pollen. So much so that I'm getting air-quality warnings on my phone's weather app every morning. What is the best / easiest way to collect some pollen samples for study? This morning's warning said that Maple, cott...

Need advice buying a Reichert Microstar IV
I'm brand new into this hobby, and I'm interested in upgrading from my 1948 Spencer Model 33. After doing some research on this forum It seems like a Reichert Microstar IV would make for a decent upgrade. There are a few on Ebay right now, and I would appreciate some advice on what to look for, or w...

Thanks for the reply.
I saw the identical scope online as a Labomed and another one called AMscope.
I think I'll keep going with my old AO Spencer.

Re: 1940s(?) Spencer model identification help
Hi 404030 I have pretty much the same story as you. My experience with scopes is limited to High School, but I've always wanted to learn more about the unseen world. My son thought that he broke the filtering media in his expensive backpacking water-filter and I half joking said "maybe it's time to ...

Hello Everyone,
I just bought a very old AO Spencer "Black Beauty" scope from 1950's. Having a lot of fun with it, and would love to learn more about how to use it and improve its performance.
