Re: Magnification of the NFK eyepiece in the Olympus BH-2 system

Since the LB objectives used on the BH2 are not fully compensated, they rely on the eyepieces and NFK protection optics to complete the compensation of the intermediate image produced by the objectives. You therefore MUST use an NFK in the trinocular port.

Re: Does the Olympus BH2 phase contrast condenser provide darkfield?

There were two specific versions of the phase-contrast condenser offered by Olympus, for the BH2 scopes, as follows: 1) BH2-PC. This condenser has 0 (brightfield), 10, 20, 40, and 100 (phase) positions. 2) BH2-PCD. This condenser has 0 (brightfield), 10, 40, and 100 (phase) positions, and a dedicate...

Re: Darkfield Diatoms - Amscope Condenser on BH2

Here is a usable way to add darkfield and oblique to your BH2 (BHT, BHTU, BHS). The darkfield results will not be as good as what you can obtain with the true darkfield condensers discussed in this thread, but is certainly acceptable. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1YmmqtSaPhHaZnf6zRctKjqlMN...

Stage Leveling Tool

Looking to find a microscope stage alignment jig. The kind that screws into an RMS objective hole and allows you to judge the alignment of the the stage, relative to the objective hole.

Re: Oiling/Greasing a Microscope

I have a friend who is a retired microscope repairman in the Madison WI area. 50 plus years of field service of Olympus scopes. He taught me most of what I know about Olympus scopes, and he swore by Plastilube, and used in every BH2 scope he serviced. So there is good demonstrated history of no opti...

There is no nfk that captures the superwide field that the sw trinocular with 30mm eyepieces provides.

Re: Collimation of Oly BH2 microscope

Alan Wood has the CH repair manual from Olympus, in PDF format, on his site. It clearly shows the AA7826 gear used in the knob. I can verify that it is the same gear as the BHS, BHT, BHSU, and BHTU (and others).

Re: CH/BH2 Compatibility

Many, but not all, of the low-level focus parts are interchangeable between the BH2 and CH. The AA7826 gear in the fine focus knob is, whereas the other gears are not, if I recall correctly. The pinion assembly is similar, but different parts (the knob-to-knob distance is different).

Re: Collimation of Oly BH2 microscope

If you use a modified light inlet barrel as the target, it fits VERY accurately, with no discernable play. It is almost an interference fit. Having said that, you'll never notice the effects if it's out of collimation. But technically, it does matter, if only just a little bit. I've had many people ...

Re: Objective hits the glass

If you wear glasses, but are using the scope without your glasses, you may be compromising the proper working distance of your scope to accommodate your vision. If so, try it with your glasses on. Then there are the two classic beginner mistakes: 1) Not using a proper .17mm cover glass. If too thick...

You should train yourself to look into a monocular microscope, using your dominant eye, while keeping the other eye OPEN. Much less eye strain.

Re: Olympus BH2/CH2 compatibility.

Advantages of the bh2 over the ch2: 1) True kohler lighting. 2) Better modularity. 3) Greater ruggedness. 4) Wider viewfield (18mm on ch2, 20mm or 26.5mm on bh2) 5) Tube length compensation. The viewing head for the bh2 is compensated to prevent changes in tube length with IOD adjustment, whereas th...
