Re: Wanted - Zeiss intermediate rings - and/or dic sliders for standard
Thanks ImperatorRex and 75RR. I value your experienced observations. I will stick with my condenser with 0.63 top lens - I can put up with the reduced numerical aperture of the 63X objective, and believe that one slider can be made to work with other objectives too. I just need to source a spacer wi...

Re: Wanted - Zeiss intermediate rings - and/or dic sliders for standard
Thanks. I have a 63x 1.4 objective, but my condenser is has the 0.63 top lens with prisms I and II. Will this combination work do you know? My apologies, DIC is entirely new to me since I've never been in a position to use it.

Re: Wanted - Zeiss intermediate rings - and/or dic sliders for standard
Thanks for the information.
Please do let me know if anyone knows who might have any spacers or DIC sliders they are prepared to sell?

Wanted - Zeiss intermediate rings - and/or dic sliders for standard
Having finally managed to a dic condenser (465273) with 0.63 top lens, I'm on the look out to complete the setup, but it's looking hard to find the intermediate slider rings. If anyone has any spare and willing to sell, let me know. Also on the lookout for individual objective sliders that will work...

Re: Help with improving image
Thanks Michael - appreciated. I agree, none look properly sharp, but not unexpected given that I am using the Optovar at full throttle - rather than moving up to a higher numerical aperture X60.

Re: Help with improving image
Thank you for all observations with advice. MichaelG, I will post a couple of the single stacked images later, but for now, here are three single photos, which, in my opinion appear better than the stacked effort. I have yet to manage half reasonable stacked photos. These are uncropped images, neate...

Help with improving image
I have taken a break of a year and just returned - so am a bit rusty. Previously, I had been following the the threads on oblique illumination / VAC2 with interest, and here present a rather disappointing photograph using oblique illumination with polarisation. I think this might be a testate amoeba...

Re: Microscope parts for sale and identification
Hello
I have the exact polariser part on my Zeiss Jenna NF (black) and guess that yours is for the later 1970s models. Mine also has room for interference filters.
I can provide images if you like.
Good stuff you have there.

Re: Something a little different
Hello Bill and thanks. Yes I have tried something similar using a split prism instead of a mirror - it's rather hit and miss and of course not really providing for Koehler illumination. It also takes up a lot of space on the desk, and so I am thinking along the lines of channelling the flash through...

Yes that is something I had begun working towards last year but neglected owing to the complexities getting the better of it:-)IanW wrote:Which reminds me, I have to take up the flash project again.

Something a little different
As I am getting fed up with blurred images whilst photographing living organisms in pond water, I decided to try a prepared slide (here one of Lotus pollen), and so am sharing the resulting photo here. Nice design for a tie or wallpaper perhaps:-) https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7875/46411868104_4855...

Re: VAC2 - first attempt
Thanks Hobbyst46 - It certainly is frustrating trying to figure out the best options and then make it work. Using a hole punch was my next step:-) but as you say, tying to make it dead central is yet another hurdle. I will keep at it for as long as my sanity allows and update here with some better q...

Re: VAC2 - first attempt
Hi Bob thanks - yes I have had considerable difficulty in just cutting the stops alone - and fixing the smaller circle to the larger. Using glue was not a good idea as it caused interference. I think I have much trial and error left to go, and these results are only a start and far from satisfactory...

VAC2 - first attempt
These are my first efforts using a homemade VAC2 design. This was a crude effort since my tools and skills are minimal. I only needed the one filter since I am using it with my Zeiss Jena NF equipped with a zoom condenser. The design comes from Arthur Strange and consists of one polarising disc with...
