Re: Complete Zeiss Standard 18 microscope with 5 objective turret for sale
Hello and thank you for your message. Unfortunately I would like to keep the scope whole and so cannot sell just one eyepiece. I wish you success finding what you require.

Re: For sale - legendary Carl Zeiss Jena Apochromat 60/1,40 HI
Sadly with the prices spiralling out of control (UK petrol at £8.00 per gallon), very few people have money to spare. That $70 offer might become the norm in the coming years, as I see no end to yhe present economic downturn...indeed it is likely to worsten, inthe UK at least.

Re: Rotifer: Keratella serrulata serrulata
ZZffnn Yes indeed, that's what it reminded me of. It would be enlightening to learn about the slide preparation used in such cases - in particular the ability to get detailed still videos lasting a minute or more. I'm lucky if I can get such organisms in the same view for longer than 1 second, let a...

Re: Rotifer: Keratella serrulata serrulata
Luis - most impressive!
Can you explain how you managed to film the rotifer when looking down from above? Also - how do you manage to keep the fellow so still at very high magnification?
Many thanks.

Compost organisms
I have been composting for many years, and recently got an aerobic composter which produces a lovely dark liquid from the bottom of the composter. This can be collected and used as plant feed, although I don't bother with that. I decided today to take a closer look at what's going on inside the liqu...

Re: Complete Zeiss Standard 18 microscope with 5 objective turret for sale
I am bumping this up since I couldn't face selling on eBay. As explained - I can sell just the microscope body (no objectives) - or can add a range of objectives to suit (I have Zeiss semi-plans, as well as neofluar and planapos). All glass is clean with no fungus or delamination unless stated. Like...

Using WL. Good idea about lifting eyepiece..Will try that tomorrow. The only KPL eyepieces I have are x10 and project only a tiny area of view onto camera sensor.
Thanks Wes.
Thanks Wes.

Re: Live diatoms
How do you project the image onto the camera sensor? Direct or afocal projection? Hi Wes, I use direct projection (the 1:2.5 projektiv eyepiece) through a genuine 1960s Nikon F adapter which has its own intermediate lens - presumably for covering the 35mm full frame. I have never been a fan of the ...

Re: Live diatoms
Thanks SWmicro - I have now altered the 2nd video so that it should show. Essentially with bright field the diatom would stand out with less clarity, and the structure would be harder to visualise. As the DIC slider being used was not intended for the Lomo X70 na1.23 objective, the effect is not per...

Out of interest, are the paintings/drawings on the wall behind you by you? They look fascinating.
Cheers, Ian.

Thanks to Wes for helping me improve my video shots of water life. I'm newish to taking videos, and it seems the preferred method of sharing on this forum now. No 4K here I'm afraid. My Nikon d810 doesn't allow it. Both shots are using a Lomo X70 water immersion objective (watered also to condenser)...

Re: Flagellates and bacteria in water/parsley after 3 days
Thanks Wes - much appreciated, will take a look. In the meantime, this morning I have experimented with camera settings a little, got rid of the phase plates and made 2 more videos using both X40 and a Lomo X70 water immersion lens - shots of straight forward live diatoms. Contrast is a little bette...

Hello Wes, yes possibly contamination from soil.
Good point re phase plate. Will try some further videos under natural light.
Using x40 na 0.95 dic with x2.5 projection. Looks a lot better through the eyepiece. Out of practice now for 2 years since I have lost motivation.

I would welcome comments on how to improve video quality, as normally I take still photographs. I use a Nikon d810. Projection lens is Zeiss Jena MF Projektiv 2.5X.
Thanks

Flagellates and bacteria in water/parsley after 3 days
I had some cut parsley growing in a jar of water, and after 3 days noted that the water had turned a pale colour - so decided to see what was going on. Lots of bacteria, and flagellates feeding off it. I took a quick film, poor quality as I'm a bit rusty having had an absence from the microscope of ...

Apologies for late reply. Yes I am happy to sell the boxed phase contrast condenser by itself.DevonianSea wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 3:48 pmDear IanW,
If it's still available, would you consider selling the phase contrast condenser separately?
