Re: Do I really need a 17 inch laptop screen?
From Specifications of Laptop screen and External PC Monitor, Most of them are 1920x1080 Pixel on screen (Full HD Resolution). So no matter what screen size you selected, 14, 15.6 or 17 Inch screen, all of the are the same resolution (Full HD). Very few Laptop Screen are 2K (2560x1600) Pixel or 4K (...

Thank you very much for your comment and video, Sansub2.
Your video is beautiful sample, I can see detail inside Paramecium clearly.
I'm glade to hear that this Oblique filter work well with your microscope.
Hopefully it work well with your WI 40X.
Cheers,
Suphot.

Re: DIY High N.A. Oblique Illumination Filter
Note: This small water droplet is very difficult to see under Bright Field Illumination. It is colorless and small under cover slip in my wet mount sample. It is easier to see when using the Oblique Illumination Filter and make the droplet look 3D Image. All photo samples above made by Afocal Photog...

Re: DIY High N.A. Oblique Illumination Filter
Using this Oblique Illumination Filter is the same way as GUF Filter. It is a trial and error approach, first step you have to fully open the condenser diaphragm and slide the filter in to the condenser filter tray. Then slide back and forth, Left and Right until you get the optimum result. You may ...

Re: DIY High N.A. Oblique Illumination Filter
I found that, if I remove the Gradient area from the GUF filter, by cut the Black Poster paper in to “L” shape like this. It seem to work well for Oblique Illumination with 40X and 60X Objective. Pic 2. Oblique Filter size, cut from Black Poster paper. The edge of cut paper is white, So I reduce sca...

DIY High N.A. Oblique Illumination Filter
After I made Gradient Universal Filter (GUF) and use it for a while for Oblique Illumination, it is not work very well with High N.A. Objective (40X and Higher). So I try to improve it to use with High N.A. 40X and 60X dry Objective that I have. Pic 1. GUF Filter size that I made by stacking 4 layer...

I did not fusing diatom on slide, but let it slowly dry under cover slip. It can kept diatom several months. Re: Rosin dissolve in Xylene for permanent slide
Thank you very much for your comment Hobbyst46 Your suggestion about other dissolve solution is very interesting. I think it will be benefit to members who would like to try Rosin for mountant. I did not see Rosin crystalize under cover slip in my sample slides and I still can observe it quite well under microscope. It was more than 40 years now, I kept these slides in the box and forgot about it. the slides still looking OK, the Rosin mountant become more yellow as you can see in the photo.
Under microscope, cross section of plant stem and compound eye of butterfly sample still looking good.

Rosin dissolve in Xylene for permanent slide
I would like to share my experience about using Rosin dissolve in Xylene for permanent slide mount. Back in 1977, I experiment to made permanent slide for my Biology class at that time. I know that Canada Balsam is a good permanent mountant, but it is very expensive and difficult to buy one. I think...

Re: Keep Dry Diatom on slide
Thank you very much for all comments, Charles; I afraid to seal cover slip with vanish or finger nail polish because it may leak in to diatom and made it more difficult to see. Hobbyst46, Yes, it is difficult to avoid capillary effect, so I use scotch tape to fix cover slip in place. MicroBob, Thank...

Re: Keep Dry Diatom on slide
But this is not for serious observation of diatoms, because diatoms was dry under cover slip which contain thin layer of air. So it is not give good result with 100X Oil objective. I think it is a simple and easy way to keep diatoms sample for a while. It need not complicate process and high refract...

Re: Keep Dry Diatom on slide
So I use thin strip of scotch tape to fix 4 sides of the cover slip to slide. I don’t know how long it can be kept in this way. I can store this slide with algae and diatom vertically in the slide box in the same way as permanent slide.

Re: Keep Dry Diatom on slide
But cleaning and permanent mounting them is complicate and difficult, so I let it slowly dry under cover slip in the room.
After several day, I observe it under microscope, it is still looking OK. Some way some how, when it was dry up, algae and diatoms was fix on slide under cover slip.

Re: Review Amscope 60X Objective
Hi Hobbyst46, Thank you very much for your comment. I think the distortion may came from S10E camera, I use S10E take photo via Afocal technic. The S10E camera lens has equivalent to 26 mm focus length, it is consider wide angle lens. So it may cause distortion when look into the eyepiece. I may try...
