For Sale: Olympus CH-2
My old Olympus CH-2/ CH-S served me well to learn about microscopy, but since I purchased a BX it is collecting dust. It comes with: Cable, obviously Binocular head (clear and moves smoothly) WHK 10x 18L eyepieces (Some coating loss is evident) Right hand stage (stiff, but easily fixed) 4 Achromatic...

Re: Olympus BX items for sale
Hi Pete.
I would like to ask if you have a U-TRU, U-TRUS or a trinocular head for a BX50.
I would also be interested in prices for the Universal condenser, U-D6RE, U-DICT (or equivalent) and U-ANT.
Thanks.

Re: Problems with my Oblique Lighting
The posted diatom images seem to show non-optimized brightness of field. Thanks for your reply Hobbyst46. That's caused by the way I'm taking the photographs. I used to do an afocal projection onto my DSLR with a 50mm lens, but I kept seeing tons of dust spots, so now I do a "direct" projection. I ...

Problems with my Oblique Lighting
Hi everyone. I have been enjoying my Olympus BX50. The U-PCD is a very good condenser and with one wheel I can change between Brightfield and Darkfield, but I like my Oblique better and it is my most used technique. However, it works best with my 10x objective only, the 4x can be used, but only a sm...

Here's one for $2000 and seller takes offers. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Olympus-BX40-Microscope-with-3-Objectives-with-Sharp-Clear-Optics-/274425469516?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292 Thanks, but it doesn't ship to Mexico unfortunately, even though it is in the USA. BX microscopes seem to be fairly a...

WTB Olympus BX40
Hi Everyone.
I currently have an Olympus CH-2, but I want to upgrade to an infinity corrected system.
I would like to buy an Olympus BX40 or Bx41 with a 10x and 40x only to keep costs below 2,200 USD if that´s possible.
Thanks
Uriel

Re: Staining a Chironomid Larva
That would be cool, but unfortunately I don't have access to a Microtome,Confocal or Fluorescence microscope. Can Lactophenol be used to mount such specimens?

Staining a Chironomid Larva
I've caught a Chironomid larva that I want to mount. As of right now, I've it stored in 70% Et OH. Is there a protocol for staining the nervous system and/or muscle tissue? I've a Polarization setup to see the muscle fibers, but I would like to view more things. Will Luxol Fast Blue work? How about ...

Re: Picric acid substitute in Johansen's Safranin-Fast Green Protocol
I've only done Sass Safranin - Fast Green on Plant tissue sections. However, I think a mild acid like Acetic acid is enough to differentiate the Safranin. Not that I'm an expert, but I think that Differentiation just refers to the Safranin being de-stained more slowly from lignified tissues or nucle...

Re: WTB: Olympus short-barrel PlanApo 40x and 100x
Hi.
Although not exactly what you requested, I have a Short barrel FL 40x 0.75. I got it for my CH-2 but didn't know it wouldn't function properly.
Please contact me if you want it.
Pd. I'm in Mexico

Re: Some problems with my microscope
Thanks everyone, That is something I didn't thought of.
I'm going to get an Olympus condenser, since most of you agree it is best.
I will also sell my 40x Objective and try to get a new Long Barrel one. Are other brand Objectives totally compatible?

Re: Some problems with my microscope
Well, the condenser is cheap, high NA and of metal construction, I'm a fan of rare looking equipment. It comes with its own stand, but if there is a problem I would rather use an Olympus. :D Regarding the BH2 vs Infinity scopes, the newer objectives have improved coatings, aspherical elements and so...

Re: Some problems with my microscope
As suggested earlier, just a complete 1.25 na Olympus condenser that fits your scope would work well. Olympus also made a better color corrected 1.4na condenser, but the extra $100 it might cost won't be all that obvious until you, say, start taking photos with a 100x oil immersion lens, with the c...

I just ordered a FL 40x 0.75 from Ebay for less than 75 USD for my CH-2 and the stage doesn't go far enough.

Re: Some problems with my microscope
Thanks for the response.
I only had a 4x, 10x, 20x and a 100x, so a 40x was a must. Could you tell me a bit more about the extender? Advantages and Disadvantages.
Also, what are some good and rare Condensers? Say, below 150 USD.

Some problems with my microscope
Hi everyone, I have several questions regarding my microscope: I bought an Olympus CH-2 with a set of D Achromats and I recently bought a Short barrel FL 40x 0.75. The Shrot barrel objective requires much closer focusing distance than my microscope can provide. How can I work around the short barrel...
