Re: Will buying a 60x objective improve resolution?

Tina - if you happen to be around maybe watch this a bit later https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6k1pqBPVt4 You can get cheap, Chinese, 60x 160mm plan objectives - not sure how much the Euromex ones cost. Chinese quality can be variable. I bought a cheap one a few years back but hardly use it. A 40x ...

Re: Will buying a 60x objective improve resolution?

Hi The objective you are considering is a finite one (160mm) whereas your microscope appears to use infinity optics. You can double check by having a quick look at the factory fitted objectives to see if they have 160 or an infinity symbol on them. The two types are not optically compatible. A 60x o...

Re: Another DIC question

Wondering if that's the reason I'm not achieving DIC My Optiphot EPI DIC BD nosepiece has a lens just above the objective turret, presumably to compensate distance added by DIC prism sliders; Perhaps your EPI DIC M-Plan objective nosepiece has a similar lens? That could throw off infinity objective...

Hi again

You might be interested to compare with some pics I took earlier in the year using, I presume, the same camera as yours. They aren't great but the slides were made-in-China ones:

Re: SW380T 5mp camera pic quality

I have a SW380T that came with an OEM 5mp camera. The camera connects fine to a pc. However, the picture quality is not very good. I've lengthened and shortened the camera tube many times to find the cleanest image. The camera image is darker and much less defined/sharp as the eyepieces. The white ...

Re: Things from China...

It's like waking up from a dream in which you've found a trunk full of cash. Well, it's not a big deal. Not a financial downer - just disappointing to not receive something I thought I might get. I've not even tried the one I did receive via FedEx yet! Maybe over Christmas... I find, as I get older...

Re: Things from China...

I'm so disappointed! I just received the post I'd paid the customs charges for. Only, no objective - just a small bag of tiny prisms and lenses and a note saying the objective was being shipped via FedEx! If I'd realised, I might have just not paid the charges though that would have been dishonest! ...

Oh, just to mention, I didn't have to pay FedEx any customs charges for the objective they delivered :)
Fedex features the habit to send an invoice for customs and duties plus a hefty fee some time after the delivery.
I had wondered whether I might yet still get a bill...

You're lucky to have TWO units to compare and select the better from! It'd be interesting to see what you come up with. Sidenote - expect crazy-exorbitant shipping fees for sending packages overseas from the US. This makes returning things completely moot. I imagine they'll both be the same. I've n...

Things from China...

A month ago I purchased a UPlanFLN 100x/1.30 via a seller on Ebay that I've used before. It was just a small upgrade for my AmScope 720Q. A while later I got a message from the seller apologising for the delay and saying he would dispatch it by FedEx. At the time I thought it a bit odd since it seem...

Hi I thought I was getting somewhere with it (see my long thread from May last year https://www.microbehunter.com/microscopy-forum/viewtopic.php?p=104178#p104178 ) but in the end decided what I was seeing wasn't true DIC. I did find that the amount of screw tension needed to produce the interference...

Re: dIY DIC

Finite vs infinity doesn't matter. You can get away with some mis.atching with epi DIC anyway. The 20x/0.75 gives surprisingly decent views of wafers in coaxial epi illumination without a coverslip, though of course it's significantly better with one. Oblique seems to be a little less forgiving. Th...

Re: dIY DIC

Once I'm happy that my epi/vertical illuminator is behaving, I'll certainly give the two Nikon CFI60 objectives a go with the epi dic. The epi dic nosepiece is obviously intended for finite optics so I'm not sure whether it can still work with even the epi infinity objective anyway? I've previously ...

Oke….tnx for the info. My sw380 will arrive tomorrow. Maybe it’s worth a try, otherwise I’ll go with my current setting, an iphone adapter. With a high quality adapter I think you can get very good results on a phone with an EP in the trinocular. Just as good via the binocular but maybe less conven...

Re: 3d print dslr adapter for sw380t

https://youtu.be/hVgYuPVrCuY Yeah, you could try that with the 380T but a) the Stellar 1 appears to have a wider port and b) it has infinity optics. That means it has a tube lens so you can place the camera sensor at the tube lens focal length. I've done that with my infinity Amscope. But finite mi...

But you used a 2x reduction lens in the adapter didn’t you ? In Oliver’s video he lowers the camera sensor position to the place the image is projected in the tube. That bought dslr adapter did have a x2 lens in it. It's obviously necessary to expand the image to try and fill the sensor area. I see...

I’ve read this thread Louise but I’m particularly interested in a non-lens adapter like in the mentioned video. Hi I have to admit, I haven't revisited this (despite intending to!). I think the problem I ran into was not knowin...

Maybe this diagram helps (from Murphy and Davidson, 2013) RoleofCondenserDiaphragm.JPG You can view an enlarged BFP with a 'Bertrand Lens' or 'Phase Telescope' (which you can knock up with a couple of suitable lenses). I'd have thought you'd be able to see how the aperture varies at the bfp or at th...

You might be able to diy one. Just 3D print the housing in two parts and incorporate an achromat with what looks like about a 10-12mm focal length. I might have a go myself one day if I have some spare time!
