Re: Wanted: Stray light cap for Leitz dry darkfield condenser
The 3D printed part came today! I know there are hundreds of you excitedly waiting to hear an update, ha ha. 😂 I’m attaching pics. I don’t know about the finish, it’s not really black, but I could paint it with a high temp flat black spray paint if I needed to. I’ll try it out tomorrow and post phot...

Re: Wanted: Stray light cap for Leitz dry darkfield condenser
Giorgio's SCAD file (L) vs. Michael's photo (R). A pretty good match, I think! If there are any small differences, I may be able to address them with sanding.

Re: Wanted: Stray light cap for Leitz dry darkfield condenser
OK, the CAD-generated light cap is on order! It took me all of 5 minutes to install the SCAD viewer, download Giorgio's file, upload it to craftcloud3d.com, and place the order. I chose alumide as the material, polished and finished in black. Alumide is nylon reinforced with aluminum particles, whic...

Re: Wanted: Stray light cap for Leitz dry darkfield condenser
Wow. THANK YOU GIORGIO!! That was a significant amount of work for you to do just to help out a fellow microbehunter! And thank you to Michael for providing the photos and dimensions of the mythical beast, and to all of y’all for the input and help. I can’t believe how you guys just made it happen a...

Re: Wanted: Stray light cap for Leitz dry darkfield condenser
As it happens, I just learned that a friend of a friend recently got a 3D printer, so I can try this option out for low stakes. Interesting that the original part seems to be brass (thanks to Hobbyst for figuring that out). I wonder if the 3D printed resin material will become brittle over time. But...

Re: Wanted: Stray light cap for Leitz dry darkfield condenser
Wow, thank you for doing that! Super cool! For dimensioning, there is no iris on the darkfield condenser, but the diameter of the bottom opening that admits light is 18 mm. See attached photo. I am not sure if this corresponds to the Leitz drawing or not... there is a little bit of uncertainty there...

Re: Wanted: Stray light cap for Leitz dry darkfield condenser
Can you sketch a drawing or estimate the size of this cap? At least the outer diameter d1. So i can design it and you can order it 3D printed from some shop nearby you. Excellent, thank you Patta! This would be great. I’ve tried darkfield stops, coins, etc. sitting on top of the condenser but with ...

Re: Wanted: Stray light cap for Leitz dry darkfield condenser
Photo of IRTIS iris (and funnel stop) from one of the Leitz manuals. It looks like the objective comes apart or is a special objective that goes with the IRTIS. Anyone know?

Re: Wanted: Stray light cap for Leitz dry darkfield condenser
They also talk somewhere about funnel stops that fit within the objective, which I’ve never seen offered up for sale, and then the IRTIS iris attachment which affixes to the objective somehow. I actually have the IRTIS, but I think it needs a special objective. I can’t see any way to attach it to my...

Yes, that’s one of the sources I read, thanks for digging that up! It does seem like the cap will help with the 40x.

Re: Wanted: Stray light cap for Leitz dry darkfield condenser
You can use the darkfield condenser without the light cap, and it works well at lower magnifications. But for the 40x objective, it is recommended to use the cap to block stray light. I’m getting glare and difficulty getting full darkfield without it when I use the 40x objective. One source I saw ev...

Wanted: Stray light cap for Leitz dry darkfield condenser
Hi all,
I now have a Leitz dry darkfield condenser for my Dialux, but am still in need of the black plastic(?) stray light cap or hat that goes with it. Does anyone have one they’d like to sell me? I will pay $40 USD for it. Thank you!

That’s strange. I’d like to know what it is too. The Facebook group “Amateur Microscopy” has some experts who may be able to identify it if you post it there.

Re: Help with iPhone setup on ‘70s Leitz Dialux?
Now I’m confused ... From your opening post, I thought you specifically wanted to use the photo-tube ... leaving the binocular free for visual use. Yes, you’re correct! Much better to be able to just leave it on the phototube. The LabCam can be used either way, so it would be perfect... except I do...

True. Or I wish someone would just sell a simple plastic snap-in tray custom-sized for each type of phone. Like the LabCam but without the lens. Easy.

Re: Help with iPhone setup on ‘70s Leitz Dialux?
The main problem I found was the difficulty of adjusting along the third axis (Z-axis). I recently discovered the Celestron NEXYZ adapter... Yes! The Z-axis adjustment is one reason I was questioning whether a simple iPhone adapter would work. I have the Gosky adapter coming, and if that doesn’t wo...

Help with iPhone setup on ‘70s Leitz Dialux?
Hi all, I have an early ‘70s grey Dialux with a trinocular head and am trying to find a good setup to take pics with my iPhone. I have a LabCam Pro that gave great results with a modern scope, but the problem is that it is designed to either replace an eyepiece or else drop straight into a trinocula...

Wanted: Leitz 0.80 dry darkfield condenser with sliding dovetail for '70s Dialux
Hi all, I'm looking for a Leitz 0.80 dry darkfield condenser with the sliding dovetail to fit my '70s Dialux. Attaching an image isn't working, but it's the one shown in this ebay auction: https://www.ebay.ie/itm/Leitz-Wetzlar-D-0-80-DF-Dark-Field-Microscope-Condenser-with-light-Cap-/122025404186 Pl...
