Re: The Magnification Issue

Hello, there are many interesting issues in this thread, here are a few - - - One is: If .01mm in a "ruler" becomes 38mm, then the following is true, 0.01 x =38, so x equals 3,800 as the magnification. Any known dimension such as 0.01mm or even 1mm measured and compared as above can yield a final ma...

Re: Springtails viewed with two different optical systems

Hans, Thanks for your appreciation for my comparison. Like you, I find comparisons presented on this and other websites to be very valuable. Thanks for noticing the astigmatism, bringing it to my attention, and explaining it. I had not seen that aberration pattern before, so appreciate knowing it no...

Springtails viewed with two different optical systems

The two images in this post allow a basic comparison of image quality using two different optical systems. The springtail in the lower left of these images is just under 1 mm long, with fine bristles that are between 4 and 7 microns in diameter. The Springtail partially shown in the top left portion...

Re: Chinese Wild M3 Clone: It's pretty good! [With comparison to mz6]

First, a huge thanks for all of the great details in the Scarodactyl reply to my questions. Sorry for the delay in this response. The reply opened a huge set of possibilities that I explored ! Thus, I plunged into a very deep "rabbit hole". I already have several Mitotoyo M Plan Apo objectives that ...

Re: Hello from Portland, Oregon

Thanks for your replies. Note, while I have significant experience doing microscopy, I am also frustrated by the lack of generally accessible technical information about the optical systems and products are out there on the market - especially older used items that are affordable. Fortunately, the c...

Re: Chinese Wild M3 Clone: It's pretty good! [With comparison to mz6]

THANKS for your quick reply Scarodactyl. The thread diameter of my 1.6 objective is 50mm, the same as the objective on the Wild M5. However, the pitch is clearly different. The lens engages into my M5 but does not thread properly, so I do not force it. Thanks for confirming the pitch specs matching ...

Hello from Portland, Oregon

I just posted some technical questions on the "Chinese Wild M3 Clone: It's pretty good! " page and hopefully someone can lend a hand. Thanks. I have photographed through microscopes since I was a teenager (started with a B&L brass monocular) and have worked for years as a biologist. Microscopes I ha...

Re: Chinese scopes & Wild PLANAPO 1.6 OBJECTIVE; What does it fit?

I need some advice in relation to my Wild PLANAPO 1.6 objective (Wild 445356) I finally have managed to learn that it fits the Wild M3B, M3C, and M3Z (is that correct?) In relation to the following, what advice can anyone give - - based on their experience. Note I have a Wild M5 with phototube. Also...
