How do you recognize delamination?

When people are talking about delamination of optical elements, somehow always Zeiss seems to be involved. But I never bothered because as far as I know I never encountered it. So far al my equipment consists of 60-ties and 70-ties Leitz scopes which should fall in the suspect range but till now hav...

Re: Wanted: Leitz HM-LUX TL illuminator unit

Sort of tried that, bought a selection of bulbs fitting in the original setup but to limited results. It is quite difficult to get the ideal position of the LED and output was also disappointing. Besides, this setup is really limited in performance because it is not a real condenser but a kind of fr...

Re: Wanted: Leitz HM-LUX TL illuminator unit

This was the old lamp / 'condenser', directly attached to the stage. By turning you can move it up- and downward a bit to adjust brightness and contrast.
Trafo needed for the BA9S-bulb.

Re: Bayonet-sizes and fit of Leitz heads

By the way, the problem is solved: I acquired a very basic HM-LUX with the correct monocular head.

Wanted: Leitz HM-LUX TL illuminator unit

Hi, Recently I laid my hands on a specimen of the most basic version of the Leitz HM-LUX microscope with the intention to use it as backup-scope for the main one which is currently setup for phase contrast. Currently the upgrade is in progress: XY-stage mounted, the amazingly simple illumination uni...

Re: Need help with oldLeitz objetive, and phaco NPL

The combination seems to work out fine.
Perhaps it is a fun experiment to compare both condensers with that set of objectives.

Re: Choosing a good phase contrast microscope.

The amount of knowledge of Apochronaut is staggering, I have only 2 cents to add. Since I have this near mint Leitz microscope from the seventies-era (SM-LUX) that already had a phase contrast condenser, just for the fun of it, I started looking for parts to make it more functional. It is from the 1...

Re: Need help with oldLeitz objetive, and phaco NPL

I think that is a nice setup and please let us know how the combination with the Heine condenser works out. What microscope do you use? The standard- and NPl objectives are only advertised in combination with the Zernike (402) condenser. The objectives shown with the Heine Condenser have a Pv-notati...

Re: Need help with oldLeitz objetive, and phaco NPL

Recently I set up a Phaco system and compared some sets of identical objectives regular/Phaco. There is a slight loss in contrast in BF with the Phaco's and also the colors seem, and I stress seem a bit flatter than with the regular ones. But if you do not directly compare, the - or at least most - ...

Re: Galf's gear - pt.1

Looks unused - nice find. On a slight side note, amazing how the colour can vary so much within one session. . Actually it is from different sessions with weeks in between 8-) The scope is next to my home-workplace for some breaks during extended screen-time. Also easy to attach a cam every now and...

Re: Bayonet-sizes and fit of Leitz heads

Thanks for thinking along. The catalogues are not the problem, there are many PDF's from different era's to be found. In fact they are extensive part & price lists for different configurations. But since there are no part numbers on most of the parts you cannot easily identify them unless there are ...

Galf's gear - pt.1

Still fighting with some of the forum's do's & don'ts but here are some pics of what I consider my current workhorse, the SM-LUX in improving Phaco-setup. Later some some pics of my oldies, the SM-POL and Wild M5. I have no idea why the pics are 90-degrees off... _IGP6621_1.JPG _IGP6627_1.JPG _IGP66...

Re: Bayonet-sizes and fit of Leitz heads

It is a Leitz for sure, see pic. Oh and there is another head-system I forgot to mention: the real bayonet for the old POL-scopes (align two red dots and twist to secure or remove). Note the rubber shim I made to prevent the wobble of the monocular head. You can clearly see that the lower rim is not...

Bayonet-sizes and fit of Leitz heads

I emperically found out that Leitz has different bayonet dovetails. Setting: Leitz SM-LUX with standard binocular head which is perfect. A monocular head (P-type) fits but needs a spacer to prevent wobble or even falling out of the socket. At first sight the fittings look nearly identical but there ...

Re: DIN vs RMS

Again my knowledge is limited to Leitz gear. The older Leitz objectives (the black scope era) had 37mm as a standard parfocal distance and JIS with 36mm is probably a derivation of that. Mind that the older Leitz's had 170mm tube length. The 35mm is, as I see it, the Chinese answer to the standardiz...

Re: DIN vs RMS

But altogether all these systems use the same thread to mount the objectives to the revolver. Even infinite objectives come with the same thread. The old Leitz standard is 170mm tube length and only later the standardized 160mm. The distance that the object is projected in the tube is 152mm which is...

Re: DIN vs RMS

Does parfocality matter here?
There are 37mm and 45mm parfocal objectives that all conform to RMS- or DIN spec.

(Just don't mix them or you're 'screwed' )

Re: Adding darkfield to Leitz SM-LUX

There is a screw-on filter holder with two layers for the 'bathtub' 601-model condenser. It is secured by one tension screw on the side, not from below. The simplest SM-LUX with the fixed condenser can be fitted with a plastic insert for darkfield (and even phase contrast on one or two objectives). ...

Hallo from Holland - introduction post

Hi all, As a kid in the '70ties I was given a little toy microscope and a nice booklet. The toy didn't survive that long but the book contained a picture of the then quite luxury and probably fastly expensive Leitz SM-LUX for 'the advanced amateur' and that picture hold on. Then I studied geology an...
