Re: My Zeiss Microscopes

I was inspired when I first saw this impressive group of microscopes and the adaption described for incorporating flash using the old Zeiss beam splitter. This beam splitter was used for the analog cameras in which the camera was connected on the top with a view finder on the side. I was particularl...

Need help identifying this heliozoan

I recently have seen the following heliozoan a couple of times in my collections and I am not sure of the genera. It is most interesting because it has a symbiotic alga (zoochlorellae). This immediately made me think that it is Acanthocystis. However, some of the characteristics in the description o...

Use of oil immersion objective with live samples

I have to admit that I have been intimidated to use my 100x oil immersion objective to observe live specimens (I have used them extensively for permanent slides). I would appreciate any advice the users of this forum can provide concerning this topic, including any considerations for setting up wet ...

Question about setting up Zeiss DIC

I was reading some interesting information on the German Mikro-Forum concerning the different Zeiss DIC configurations. In one of the posts, the author noted that the front lens of the 1.4 NA condenser was immersed in water. Is this commonly done for all of the older Zeiss DIC configurations (I have...

Website for exploring amoebae

I recently came across a website with spectacular photos of a wide range of different types of amoebae which I think you would enjoy. I am sure many of you are aware of it, but for those who are not, enjoy!

Re: Zeiss Universal Questions

I was searching for information on how to center a rotating, circular stage for a Zeiss microscope and found this helpful threat. In a post near the bottom of the thread, 75RR describes a helpful procedure for centering these type of stages. However, it is not clear to me how the centering screws (s...

Re: Microscope Maintenance

The guy who serviced my scope used Lens Clens #1 to clean the front lenses of all of my objectives, the eyepieces, the DIC slider and all other optical components. I'm pretty sure that he would not be using this cleaner if it would damage these expensive optical elements, and he has been using it fo...

Re: Microscope Maintenance

I just had my Zeiss Photomicroscope III professionally serviced and I wanted to pass along a couple of things I learned by watching and asking questions. Since the topic of what to use to clean lenses is always of interest, the service guy that cleaned my scope uses Lens Clens #1 (https://www.lenscl...

Re: Auxiliary lens under Zeiss condenser

Anecdotally, the DIC system on this microscope seems to work better with both the plan 16x and plan 40x objectives and this auxiliary lens in place than without. This is the old DIC system with a polarizer sitting in the base field diaphragm, slider II, and prisms in the condenser.

Re: Auxiliary lens under Zeiss condenser

I am wondering about what appear to be centering screws on the lens. You can center the field diaphragm with these screws or with those on the condenser mount. Does it matter or am I not thinking about this the right way?

Auxiliary lens under Zeiss condenser

Hello All, I have just started reading the posts on this forum, although I have been a avid microscopist for many years. I have a Zeiss Photomicroscope III equipped with the old style DIC system. I have been wondering about the function of the auxiliary lens found beneath the filter holder in the co...
