Re: Cover Slip Issues with Euparal
That makes sense. I was trying to get away from ringing the slides, but if it works, it works. Thanks.

Cover Slip Issues with Euparal
Good Day All! I am new to creating permanent slides with whole mount insects as I mostly do fungal spore mounts, wet mounts, and air sample analysis. I have recently purchased some Euparal and attempted to prepare slides of a tick, an insect exoskeleton found on my basil plants, and some random Dipt...

Polarized Light Scope References
Good Day All! I have an older Nikon Labophot PLM microscope that I purchased used some time ago, but never learned how to properly use it. Are there any good resources or tutorials on using a PLM scope? Unfortunately the condenser on this one kind of sinks downward on its own over time, but I may at...

Thanks!Bruce Taylor wrote: ↑Fri Sep 25, 2020 12:13 pmNice collection! I particularly enjoyed the Lacrymaria footage.
The one labelled Loxophyllum is actually a very flexible hypotrich ciliate (cirri visible at the posterior, AZM faintly visible, contractile vacuole in the characteristic hypotrich position).

Various Freshwater Microbes
Found a bunch of different organisms from one drop of water from the stream in our backyard. Not sure of the ID on one of them.

Re: Is this a tardigrade?
You gather your samples similar to how I get mine. I leave the moss soaking for at least 24 hours, then give it a gentle squeeze into a watch glass and either look under a stereoscope or do a few drops of water per slide. I personally don't put a cover slip on until I see one, but stay away from the...

Lacrymaria from Jar Culture
I put some water from a stream in our backyard into a jar to look at it for a few days under the scope. Took a drop out today while my son was doing online class, and found a ton of Lacrymaria! First time seeing these guys!

Re: Is this a tardigrade?
Hi Shawn. The second photo you posted doesn’t look like a Tardigrade to me. How are you collecting and preparing your samples?

Hello from NY!
Hello All! My name is Kris and I am new to this forum. After a brief hiatus from microscopy professionally (PCM / mood lab director and analyst), I have taken it up again as a hobby. Started off looking at some pond water and found some Tardigrades in some moss in the yard. I have a few scopes. Olym...
