Re: Hello from sunny Oregon

wow Greg thank you! I sure would like to know how you learned all of that, please PM if you have a reference for me. Ohhhh, that bottom swing out is for a LENS! I was thinking for a filter, but there was a gap leftover I was puzzled by. I wish I already knew more! The retired doctor I bout this from...

Re: Hello from sunny Oregon

Hi Greg, welcome and I will gladly take you up on your offer of telling me how to use my microscope. The one I am struggling with today is listed here, https://imgur.com/a/ns7wbwl along with my use questions - they are the photo captions. I warn you though, it is strictly newbie territory. I am curi...

Re: My not-Nikon, not S mystery microscope

Thank you, and I had deduced that I have an achromatic one because it has 1.25 printed on it and all of the brochures listing the various Nikon condensers of then list 1.25 as achromatic, every other kind is different. But I do not know if I am right or what that means or what to do with the decente...

Re: My not-Nikon, not S mystery microscope

Hi Ross, I am happy not to have to worry about that nylon gear issue too, but for me the stage had to be flipped around or the mechanical stage controls blocked the fine focus. Now, though, I really have to find the right short barrel objectives in order to clear the slide mover itself. I got it fro...

Oh shoot, I forgot to mention those feet in the first one. see, now that is where one needs either good training or the courage of one's convictions because otherwise it would be easy to dismiss those as accidental marks or somesuch, which is the thinking that keeps worlds flat.

Not to beat a subject to death, but that is an amazing and inspiring video. Wow. Um, did you say the camera costs $1500, though? Not that it is the camera making such a great video, I know it's the director, right? Or the actors? ANyway bravo.

Thank you! On my ride home this morn I was reading the 1974 Series 10 product catalog and price list, and saw that there were ones with built in transformers. Now, since reading your post, I can just say 'trafo', lol. It did take me a minute to figure that word out. Oh but even though I hope to re-h...

Ha, thanks 75RR. You've been kicking around here for a bit, I have read posts of yours from years ago, and I tend to go for the green mandala-ish avatar when scanning a page. What is it? The highest price I ever paid for a microscope is about $40, usually less than $10. I would get nothing out of th...

Loquacious and over-active newbie here with a veritable tome, again and hopefully for the last time. Though I thought I had time this year to finally learn how to really use the microscopes I have collected with great enthusiasm, my 5-year plan just got scrunched into two or three months. Re: Here's another - Denticator Plak-A-Scope

Also, not sure if this is any kind of clue, but the focus mechanism, the fine focus particularly, wasn't something I'd ever encountered. It was almost web-like, in that it had super tiny strands of - brass, I guess, or something stronger - fine yellow-colored metal threads woven like fabric threads,...

Thank you Pete. I am curious about the diaphragm and all it's mini-options. It's for phase, or? Those pics are in my second link. I did look at the ebAY link which reminds me of the Amscope M500 series. I have one but not too crazy about it. On Thursday my mom (84 years old) knocked the Amscope off ...

The microscope most in need of competent rescuing. I don't know exactly what it can do, and it is currently in pieces, yet I have a burning desire to get it up and running. Hi Scary. I agree about the tilt. It is one of the things I love so much about my Big Sexy Beast (Giant med-school 1956 Spencer two-objective monocular). It is so smooth in every way. The balance engineered in, that which enables so smooth and effortless tilting to any angle, is considerable. Maybe ...

I'm going to try it on mine right now. First I'll try that very small spanner-type screw thing on the back/bottom of the arm. What else could it be for? I'll likely end up just taking the arm off accidentally but I must try. Do you have any tips for those kind of screws, since nobody ever seems to h...

Re: Wanted: Nikon Model S Mirror

Hello, did you ever sort this out? It sounds like I have the same type of base on my Nikon S as you do. It's thin, no room for a built in illuminator (the base, that is), just the hole in a round depression. Mine is not Nikon-branded, it is Nippon Kogaku Tokyo so might be some form of S or L or.... ...
