What is this ?

I recently purchased a Microstar that came with a teaching adaptor and two heads, my question is... What is that box that sits below the head and attachment? And what is it for?

So paint or no paint? Here's a 40X Reichert Planacro, a bit more contrast than the 40X Neoplan

Re: LW Scientific Mi5 Overview and Tests

Here's all the upgrades available for it. I got a couple of quotes from the manufacturer in ( Shenzhen) and the prices are ok , but when you add shipping nit so much. I own the PH objectives and condenser as well as the Plan objectives 4,10,20,40,60&100X. The quality of the optics is inferior when c...

Messing with Acridine

Just got my first batch of Acridine orange. Im still trying to figure out how to stain live ciliates. I think Im adding too much and so I get a lot of orange glow on the whole slide. If anyone has experience using this dye on protist any help will be welcomed. Best results so far. Leitz Laborlux K I...

Which excitation, dichroic mirror and emission filter combo do I need for this wavelength?
I have a spare cube that only has a mirror , so Im thinking of getting some cheap chroma filters and adding it to the cube

Re: Alignment bolts needed

It is unlikely that the AO/Reichert lamphouse has anyyhing to do with Leitz, since the two companies were totally distinct until the merger, then no more Leitz. It is entirely possible that AO used imperial studs on that too. Many of the threads on AO stuff were imperial, although metric fittings c...

Alignment bolts needed

Any idea on what size or type of bolt is used on the rear mirror alignment mechanism found on Leitz, Reichert... Pretty much early 80s late 70s design.? They are practically the same mechanism so they can be transferred from one design to another. The recent acquisition came with the two bolts snapp...

Re: DIY Fluorescence microscopy?

In a first step differentiate between transmitted light and epi-fluorescence. Transmitted light: You need some excitation filter and an analyzer filter. The first under and the second over the specimen. Very much the same as polarization. " I've have very knowledge on this technique, do you know of...

Photo tube completed, as it sits the Frankenstar is only missing DIC. Im waiting for a couple of LED components to try at 395 and 460nm Epi. Liquid crystal tunable filters... Has anyone played with one or has rigged one up for transmission or reflected light source? This no name condenser works great with the Diastar, It allows me to rotate the Lambda plate and polarizer individually, Pol and Ana (red) Lambda (blue). The Threaded bottom if the condenser also allows for PH rings to be inserted.... Although a pain in the butt having to change it along with each o...

Which 30mm eyepiece did you use? Plan 10X 20WF from a no name Chinese seller, a 30.5 mm sleeve can be adapted to any 20mm as long as the overall diameter of the objective does not exceed 40mm at its widest point. Im still waiting for that final adapter so I can check for CA with various Eyepieces.....

I was able to adapt the phase contrast kit onto the Diastar, that allows me to have BF, EPI, DF up to 20x and PH up to 40X The Rotating polarizer part you see on the stage normally screws on the bottom of the condenser, the Polarizer was taken out and oved onto a filter holder that sits on top of th...
