Many of the insects I look at are covered with "hairs"......
However except for clearly-purposed sensory hairs at the mouth and foot-parts.....aren't those hairs (yes, even on the wings..!!..) a "flight impediment"..??..
Seems .... a curious design.
It clearly works.

Little guy has "trailing hairs" that are smaller in diameter than his body-centered "lines"....so.....
I'm not thinking nerves. I'm thinking carapace segments....or (?) body-hairs(?).

Interesting.
Ability of blood cells to elongate to accomodate the ID of vessels.....I didn't know that.
One does not ever see that elongation on a "smeer" mount.

Mayfly nymphs construct such "cemented-together tiny-gravel homes"........live (like hermit crabs) during the nymph phase entirely underwater.

You have IDENTIFIED seeds I photographed in a raindrop filled spiderweb on the Oregon coast several years ago.
I printed the image and mounted it in my home.
Had no idea, however, the source of those seeds.
