Re: Recommend grease?
Nye used to send you samples of their grease in little foil packs to try. I've used Nye with success on telescope R&P's.

Re: Feeling a bit lost (buying advice / Belgium)
I've told this story brfore here. Got in to microscopy about 4-5 months ago from astronomy. Didn't do a bunch of research but found a stereo compound Reichert Microstar IV with 2.5, 4, 10, 40 and 100X (oil immersion) objectives for US $150. Another $150 or so in accesories (slides, coverslips, slide...

Thanks all, for enlightening me. I'm not usually one to just buy something without researching....This time I did though. I never use my 100x oil immersion so I thought the 60 would get used.....

Re: Can't focus new 60X objective
My objectives are marked with an infinity sign. If I buy extenders and I get it close to the length of the 40x and 100x will it work? I'll eat what I paid as I won't ship it back to China. I see 3mm extenders that can be stacked.

Can't focus new 60X objective
Bought a 60X objective. It is much shorter than my 100x and 40x objectives. I cannot reach focus with it. I cannot even raise my stage high enough to get close to focusing it. It is about the same size as my 4x but the distance from the objective to the slide for focus on the 4x is much longer. Any ...

Re: Advice on buying Stereo Microscope
Bought one of these for $90. https://photos.app.goo.gl/2cMWjwm9yEagkpoH9 Had 10x eyepieces and 1x and 2x objectives. Found a 3x objective for it for $25. The objective actually came with another AO 25 body and 6 eyepieces (20x and 15X) I have since bought 5X and 20x eyepieces. I now have 5X-60X magn...

Re: Hi I am new but have microscope problems already
It's not a question of "build quality" when it comes to optical coatings. They are fragile on even the most expensive optics! I have telescope eyepieces that cost 2 times what that microscope cost. You best believe that cleaning them with ANYTHING is a last resort and when done is done with great ca...

Re: 2 ways to get 200X
Yeah, my B&L 20X eyepieces are OK but there is a noticeable drop in image quality. Fortunately my scope came with a five hole nosepiece with 5 objectives. I was looking around at 60x objectives too. I have yet to use my 100x objective and thought a 60x might be more useful. I also have 15x eyepieces.

I've given my advice limited to my own beginners experience. I bought one of these a couple of months ago. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Reichert-Microstar-IV-Model-410-10X-40X-100X-Model-410-Microscope/324512147615?hash=item4b8e6e689f:g:V-YAAOSwta1gRjwQ Mine had all 5 objective spots filled and has been...

Re: Rising Cam E3ISPM 20MP Test Run - A bit confused
One thing I've learned from 50 years of photography (landscape, astrophotography and now microscopy), it is a black hole of money, gear and time. Light and focus are ephemeral and one must be ready for a lifetime of failures and victories. Enjoy the ride.....

Re: My very first compound microscope!
Cavity slides are very useful. Do not buy the regular cavity slides, the cavity is too shallow, usually 0.5 mm. Almost useless. Spend a lot more money, well worth it, and buy deep concavity slides; these have a cavity depth of from 2.0-2.6mm. You probably need only 1 or 2 slides. example: https://w...

Re: My very first compound microscope!
The B&L 15x gives a fine image. I am not that experienced yet but do have years of evaluating a full range of telescope eyepieces. Many of the premium telescopic eyepieces cost more than all my microscope's and their accessories combined! The B&L 20 breaks down a bit but works great on my stereo mic...

Re: My very first compound microscope!
Glad you snagged a Microstar. Love mine....Use it every day! Mine came with 5 objectives. Really mainly use the 10 and 40. I have two other sets of eyepieces too (15x and 20x) which then gives ( 100x 400x 150x 600x 200x and 800x). Already accrued tons of accessories cause most are cheap. Will be gre...

A month in to this for me. I have been an amateur astronomer for 50 years and HAVE found uses for telescopic 1.25" T adapters for microscopy. Hadn't even thought about trying my reducer/corrector for this though. :) I bought 2 microscopes, a Reichert Microstar IV off of ebay for $150.00. A wonderful...

Re: AO Model? I forget which one it s but it's for sale
I have 2 '60's vintage AO Spencer Stereo microscopes (25 & 26) I used IPA on one because it had a heavy glue on the front that looked like remnants of an old badge of some kind. It came off with a bit of work with no adverse effects to the finish....Those finishes are built to last and besides a cou...

Re: Adapter for telescope can be used for microscope?
I have recently acquired the proper optics and tubes to use my Nikon DSLR. I have yet to get results as good as my kludged together eyepiece projection system though. I used the standard T-ring and adaptor plus the 1.25" tube used for telescope focuser insertion. It seems the 1.25" tube just fits ov...
