Re: My old black Cogit
Cogit was a French brand of microscope but made in Germany for the French market. It probably was made by Seibert. The objective lens barrels on your microscope with the double flat knurled grip rings are identical to Seibert objectives I have seen. Might be Leitz that made the stand. Apparently , ...

Re: My old black Cogit
Really like the tablet setup It is really easy to setup a tablet on any monocular microscope. There is no physical contact between the microscope and the tablet, no vibration on the microscope when you zoom on the screen tablet. The tablet moves on the x,y plan only. On the z axis, I just pull the ...

Re: Micro-cam or Web-croscope

Problem, lack of contrast, poor definition and some "round a...

Re: Micro-cam or Web-croscope
With the last "murdered webcam", just reversed the front lens and moved away 4mm from the sensor . Hand held smartphone, I was able to take this picture of the smartphone screen. 2021-02-25-132638.jpg Image is blurry but with a steady stage it should be better. One hand holding the phone, one hand o...

Re: Micro-cam or Web-croscope
Thank you very much for this report Michael. Last year I tried the Smartphone + reverse smartphone lens proposed in the publication. I have not been able to obtain any good result. I probably failed positioning correctly the 2 lenses + the sample + a good illumination at the same time. Obtaining the...

Re: Micro-cam or Web-croscope
Thank you for all those comments. This was an old project 2019, I haven't got the cam anymore BUT, I will soon scavenge/slaughter a new one  To do : add a light condenser and an iris diaphragme. Check the positionning of the reverse objective which has to be as perpendicular to the sensor a...

Micro-cam or Web-croscope
Hello, As Hobby Brewers, we use an old microscope to check our yeast. It works well but the brewery is not "microscope friendly" because of the moisture, dust, vibrations. Something simple, robuste and cheap could be a good solution. On the web I found this : https://hackteria.org/wiki/DIY_microscop...

From a "Hobby Brewer"
Can you post some examples of what a beer brewer does with his microscope? Bob I am not sure those pictures can interesse someone  In our Hobby Brewery we check the vitality of the yeast. We add some methylene blue to the yeast suspension. Dead yeast turn blue alive one stay clear. This batch...

Re: Retired chemist, hobby brewer, near Paris F.
We were just thinking the other day of using our newly acquired microscope to examine Botrytis Cinerea fungus and other 'diseases'. Late last fall, we got 1,000 lbs of Chardonnay and threw away several hundreds pounds of grapes covered with white stuff deep inside many grape clusters. I just discov...

Re: My old black Cogit
Thank you for your comments. This microscope and all the stuff around is used to show "tiny things" to the Members of our Brewers Association. It has to be easy to move by car from my home to the Brewery, not take a long time to adjust and the ...experiments must be bulletproof. The Members have dif...

My old black Cogit
As a hobby brewer, I use an old Cogit microscope to check our yeast. Cogit was probably not a maker, they just stamped they name on basics microscopes. This microscope is composed of a black stand, XY table. Abbe condenser and iris diaphragme, filter holder. Mirror two faces. 4 objectives 7X, 45X, 8...

Retired chemist, hobby brewer, near Paris F.
I am a retired chemist (NMR, Mass spectroscopy). Presently "Hobby Brewer" with friends : https://www.facebook.com/lamauloise/ http://www.lamauloise.com/ We use an old microscope to check our yeast, count and viability. Sometime we struggle to highlight bacteria found in gushing beer  Alread...
