What type condenser are you using?.... I get similar images out of my new to me eclipse and assumed that an Abbe wasnt up to the 1000x, like you my scope runs well at 200x and 500x... I have an Ebay Nikon Achromat in the mail..... As an addenda I also dont have a 100x of the same cailber that you ha...

Re: Illumination for stereo Zoom for Micro Minerals
I have no means of shooting through my scope right now but below is a sample shot in a light box with a below macro lens. (I have a ton to learn on macro photography as well.) The field of view is roughly a half inch but defines what I mean by craggy. I like the wax paper idea and I see two votes fo...

Re: Illumination for stereo Zoom for Micro Minerals
Thanks that may work well for the flatter specimens, but most micros are pretty craggy. Maybe that bulb with a whole cut for the path of light. I get the idea of difuse I was also wondering if I could somehow rig up a darkfield ring light.....with a lot of the micro crystals and such that could be i...

Illumination for stereo Zoom for Micro Minerals
I about have my Oly SZH10 dialed in, and am incredibly happy so far. The one thing I am not thrilled with, is the illumination. I needed a ring light and I bought an Amscope something or other. It just seems to be really harsh, maybe by definition that's what you get. What would be the best illumina...

Why does currently in production matter? I doubt you will wear out the objectives or eyepieces and the only wear item is the bulb.... You can get a heck of a lot of used scope for 1000-1500......

Re: The usual odd question - which new microscope?
Your trinocular head is common and inexpensive used. One example https://www.ebay.com/itm/124862929642?hash=item1d12691aea:g:OK0AAOSw4X1hIBRd I would buy one of these a new used or new high end condenser and send my scope for a professional cleaning and tune up and use the remaining 2000 Euros for a...

When was the golden age of Microscope hardware, and what Scopes from that age have survived the test of time
Talking here about binocular scopes. Thinking that the answers I am going to get are going to be similar to cameras the The late 60s to the early 80s.... when there was still QC and plastic wasn't a preferred material.... A following is what objectives from that time are still sound by today's stand...

Shockingly having trouble finding non Ebay sources for Objective adapters. I would like to find 30 to 25, 26 to 25,, 28 to 2,5, and 27 to 25.....So far what I have ordered from China are RMS to 25.... Ideally I would find the same sizes going to RMS. I dable in old cameras and one place that I work with has some old Nikon YS2s.... I bought them (2) about a month ago. they finally showed up. I will say this the condenser in the YS2 a basic Abbey is better than the Abbey in my Ecliplse The Eclipse has a plastic field lens and the prior owner got c...

Thanks any model numbers for the big B&Ls? I would like to keep a left eye out for them. Ebaying didn't reveal anything spectacularly large. noob question How much of a quality difference between Phase Contrast Suppliers
Curious as to the difference between the quality of say an Amscope Phase Kit versus say a Native Nikon Kit for my Elipse. In astronomy, I would say you have an 80/20 or 70/30 rule where you would get 80 percent of the result for 20 percent of the cost. Curious here about phase and other techniques.....

No the 400 is a very nice scope, what I missed was being able to attach a camera to it. Will have to watch for a trinocular head to come around at a decent price....

Re: Going wide 10x/22 versus 10x/26.5 Eyepieces.
I guess in hindight I should have done a better job of specing my desires, photography and being able to take wides..... Also realizing that a 7 slot turrent like the 600 would be a lot nicer than a 5 for the long run. But I feel I got a pretty decent deal on very solid scope. I fired up the old lab...

Re: Going wide 10x/22 versus 10x/26.5 Eyepieces.
I had assumed that a premium scope like the eclipse wouldn't be stock head limited, but it is.... I have to go to a trinocular head to get the 26.5s to work.... so that is definitely a ways down the road, unless there is an affordable chinese trinocular head for it.

Phase objectives without a phase condensor
Ok, true noob question, I fully understand I wont have phase till I get (save up for) a phase condenser), but is there any issue using a phase objective with an ABBE condenser for normal viewing. Will the phase objective be ""less good"" than a tradition brightfield objective? I have the potential o...
