My newest scope!
Yesterday the UPS man brought this to my door. :) It's the AmScope B120C E1. :D This is one awesome scope, nice clear viewing, and easy to operate. For now it's set up on my reloading bench, :| and when I need to reload ammo, I have to move it, or which ever microscope I have sitting on th...

Re: My Three Scopes
Excellent 'scopes, a nice mixture of old & new, and a complementary stereo make a fine trio! Very nice kit. :) p.s. what's the bird's name and what type is it - a lorikeet or similar? hmm - I don't think lories eat millet, not sure - anyway a beautiful bird also! :) Thank you John. :) I have anothe...

My Three Scopes
Well, I finally got the time and took a few pictures of my microscopes. :D The Swift I bought used around 35 or so years ago, and it still works great. :) I took off the oil 100X and put a 60X on it, the 100X oil is in the holder. The OMAX I've had for about a month, and the AmScope for about two we...

Re: How do I remove the paraffin from a specimen?
charlie g, I'm glad that there's those on here that knows how to do these things and willing to share, :) otherwise, I'd be at a loss as what to do with a microtome and the sections I cut. :? I did play around with microscopes in the past, and I still have them, but I never had or used a microtome. ...

Re: How do I remove the paraffin from a specimen?
I looked at some of your posts from earlier this year, and from what I see it does look easy to do, :) it just takes practice. :D I see that I need to get a few more tools, and I already have most of the tools I do need. I notice you have quite a few posts on the microtome, so for now I saved the li...

Re: How do I remove the paraffin from a specimen?
Thank you John. This does help quite a bit. I'll check out your other posts on this subject and see what I can learn. I hope I'm not too old to do that. Learn that is.

Re: How do I remove the paraffin from a specimen?
Will John, I really can't give much detail as of yet. It is a hand microtome, but I haven't used it yet mostly because I don't really know what to do with the specimen after I get one. I do know about using a carrot, but I still don't know how to separate the specimen from the holder. When I finally...

How do I remove the paraffin from a specimen?
I've never used a microtome before, but I do have one and after watching a few videos, especially the one with Oliver Kim showing how to use the microtome, I think I can do it. :geek: What I can't figure out how to do is after I make a few good slices, how do I remove the paraffin wax so I can mount...

Re: New guy here!
Thanks charlie g! That's a nice collection of feathers, and I also have a few from wild birds that I'll make slides with. So far I've made two slides with real little feathers from my bird, and I have a lot more of his feathers that I'll make some slides with. I'm waiting for a good rain so I can ge...

New guy here!
Hi, I'm Steve, I live in western Kentucky, and I'm retired. I still have the toy microscope that I had as a kid back in the 1950's and early '60's. :) Around 30 years ago I bought a used Swift microscope. :) This one has a 4 objective turret and three different eyepieces, and it's really heavy. :| E...
