Re: microscopes and temperature control

I keep my 8" dob in the garage and have for years. I just didn't know if it was OK to do that with the microscopes.

microscopes and temperature control

I am currently keeping my scopes in a mostly empty garage that is NOT temperture controlled. Will the ups and downs of seasonal changes adversely effect the optics or other workings of the intruments? Where I live, Middle Tennessee, USA, is NOT subject to harsh winters, only 30s/40s*F, often in the ...

Re: keep 50x, 100x or both?

OK. So, I'm keeping the 50x and 100x. The fact that the 50x is there to "temper" the high power of the 100x helps a lot. Before I got the 110, I was used to viewing at powers of 300x or less because the quality of the scope was limiting. With the 110, viewing at even 450x is no longer a hassel. So y...

Charlie:

I tried some Lycan from one of the trees in the front yard. In that sample, I found 4 nematodes of various ages and lengths and three water bears. I have heard the term Moss Piglet and think it's a great term. I will look into the item you suggested. Thank You.

Re: keep 50x, 100x or both?

Let's see if I have the reasoning here. Since I have to use immersion with this dark field condenser, I can use an oil immersion objective only if it has an iris. Oil immersion objectives without irises can be used with dry darkfield condensers and brightfield condensers only. Is this correct?

first Tartigrade

I found my first tartigrade in Lycan from a tulip poplar. The dish that I have put it in is not opaque, so I'm having to use my cell phone a flashlight to illuminate it from the top. I either need to figure out a way to illuminate it so I can take a picture or video with my cell phone or get some Pe...

Re: keep 50x, 100x or both?

Yann E: You are correct. I do not have much experience with high power. I don't even go much beyond 270x with my 8" telescope. Apochronaut: You are also correct. I WOULD use the 50x and 100x objectives if they were not oil. However, I am thinking only of using the oil as an inconvenience. The views ...

Re: keep 50x, 100x or both?

I don't have a viable option for power between the 50x and 100x and, I'm leary of giving either one them up. I might just go with 4x, 10x, 20x, 50x, 100x. Not sure.

keep 50x, 100x or both?

I am trying to determine which objectives I want to use with my AO110. My current objectives, with catalog numbers, are in my signature. As you can see, the 50x and 100x are both oil objectives and the 50x also has an iris. I don't see that I would need 1000x for anything so I was thinking of having...

Re: AO 40X plan objective comparison.

APOCHRONAUT: Although most of my objectives are Plans, my AO 110 currently has a 45x #1116 Achro where the "traditional" 40x would be. If I were to replace this with a 40x Plan #1128, would it be worth the trouble? I am also going to replace the 4-port turret with a 5-port turret for more expandibil...

Re: AO Stereo Questions

I was wondering whether to upgrade my Stereo or not. Since Stereos use much low powers than do Compounds, are the attributes of quality optics as noticable?

I am finding some AO 570s but am having trouble finding any 580s. How does the 570 compare to the 580? Is it 98% as good? lol. Sorry, a little math humor.

AO Stereo Questions

Impressed by the quality of my newly aquired AO 110 Compound, I am now wondering whether I should replace my Amscope 305 Stereo with an AO Stereo? Since Stereos use much lower power than do Compounds, will the "upgrade" be worth the money, visually? If it is, what models of AO Stereos should I consi...

I have it for a while before I have to pay for it to make sure I want it, which I already know I do. He has several high-end scopes and he hasn't used this one in several years so I believe he was just trying to find a good home for it. I should be paying for it within the month.

Re: AO 110 opportunity!

I apologize. I did not mean anything by what I said either. I realize now, after reading it, that it must have sounded rude. The reason I was skeptical is because with the lower-grade scopes that I'm used to using, 1000x was always dubious at best, dim, not the greatest focus and hard to maintain. S...

Re: AO 110 opportunity!

I suppose the condenser height is adjustable only to allow for it's removal? It does need some adjusting but that is why it has such a large range. Total magnification = Objective magnification x Eyepiece magnification. You will get an image with the 100x if you do not oil it, just not a very good ...

Re: AO 110 opportunity!

Sounds like you have the wrong DF condenser. The condenser should have AO 1096 written on it, There should be no adjustable part on the condenser at all. All of the adjustments are in the substage carrier. Post a picture of it. I have a terrible history of getting photos on this site or other to th...

Re: AO 110 opportunity!

Cool. I suppose the condenser height is adjustable only to allow for it's removal? I'm not used to such high-quality optics. I went up to the 100x objective and everything was in focus and easily visible. There was no problem at that power at all. This might sound like a dumb question, but am I real...

The AO110 has arrived and it's more scope and I thought it was going to be. I have questions about the condensers. Re: AO 110 opportunity!

Thanks Apochronaut. On my last compound, I had objectives of 5, 10, 20, 40. I sold the 100x because I didn't see a reason to magnify anything a thousand times, and since the quality wasn't top notch I figured it wouldn't look all that great anyway. I didn't see a 5x available of the 110, but I did s...

Does NA also relate to field of view and, if it does, is the relationship directly or inversely proportional? The scope has been shipped. Scheduled to be here Thursday the 26th.
