Re: Happy Grass Cells

Just exactly what kind of Happy Grass are you talking about there Charlie??? Oregon Wi is not far from Madison...... ;^) Well, it isn't that happy grass. (Although I bet I find some on my trip to Denver, CO.) :-) I am sorry that I didn't state that I copied the link for that from a reddit post. I j...

Strange that you can't PM. I sent you one and an email link.

Sorry, I seem to be overwhelmed with projects this year and haven't been following the forum!

Hopefully you can reply to the PM.

Hello and welcome MicrobeDaughter

In the event that you don't know which description fits which microscope, feel free to post pictures without descriptions,
(singly or however)

I bet they will be identified for you. :-)

That is a great tip from Klaus Kemp! Thanks for sharing that.

It must have been memories from reading "The Clean Microscope" that made me cringe at the videos that were linked.

Use and cleaning of oil immersion lenses

I can see it will be a long time before I trust myself to observe a Klaus Kemp slide! It sure looks easy to break stuff. Any advice for me beyond what these links advise? There is more: Http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/indexmag.html?http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/artjun05/pjdiyphase.html I suggest reading all of those articles. Re: HAND MICROTOME on ebay

A bit of a necro thread but here is a better image I hope. It is clear the spring clip is designed to hold an object against the scalloped piston but I can't envision how that object relates to the piece being sectioned. Presumably the actual piece being sectioned is the diameter of the piston. For ...

Re: Difference between projection lens, photo lens, & relay lens

In Rod's post about connecting his Canon 60D camera to his scope ( http://www.microbehunter.com/microscopy-forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2702 ), he is using a 10x photo eyepiece. I assume this is not the same as a photo lens or projection lens but is something else: as far as I know, a 2.5x projection ...

Re: Klaus Kemp 8 Form Test Plate

Charlie, Those two slides contain the same diatoms. Just one slide was labeled in shorthand form. For example: Amphipleura pellucida = A. pellucida lol It is sillier that that Fan! I took the first list from Klaus' website. Both slides are labeled in shorthand; I just failed to notice that the same...

Our order from Klaus Kemp has arrived! :-) Will you each kindly send me your address in a pm? There is a potential problem though. The 8 form test plates are different. I assume Klaus did this purposely but if neither of you want the second type, I will have to make arrangements to get a replacement...

Re: Zeiss Condenser ID 40 35 160 ?

The condenser carrier is not at the bottom of its travel in any of the photos.

The black knob on the front, right controls condenser travel. If that is all the movement that you can get, then something must be restricting travel.

Re: Klaus Kemp 8 Form Test Plate

Just a reminder:Circular exhibition (and probably most exhibition) mount does not have diatom names on a separate sheet (as it is difficult to arrnahe those names the same way) and the diatoms on it may differ between each slide. You can ask for more diversity on exhibition mount, if you want (I as...

I am getting at least one other type since shipping adds to the cost significantly.

Klaus Kemp 8 Form Test Plate

When I mentioned that I intended to buy Klaus Kemp 8 Form Test Plate, I was asked to order additional test plates so that the international shipping cost could be shared. http://www.diatoms.co.uk/ I emailed Klaus Kemp asking for shipping and handling fees and he responded: Thank you for the email, t...

Re: Good Prepared Slides as examples of water life AND pros and cons of concave slides?

I have about 70 prepared slides (7 boxes) and only like about half of them. Many pond creature slides are poorly made. Few critters on the slide are intact (not crashed) or stained well. Some slides barely have anything on it at all. Some are too thick for high magnification. Many plant slides are ...

Re: Good Prepared Slides as examples of water life AND pros and cons of concave slides?

Of course many will place their objects of water life on a coverslip...and carefully plop this over the well...so the droplet with life is inverted over the well.. A Stefano in Italy runs an eBay store with wonderful prepared slides, as does Klause Kemp who I don't think uses eBay. That is a trick ...

Re: Where can you buy chemicals in Canada?

Rubbing alcohol in the form of isopropanol (isopropyl alcohol) is usually sold in pure form (though diluted to some degree). However, isopropanol will not fix tissue as ethanol will, and preserved specimens will deteriorate. http://www.science-is.com/ is a Calgary outfit that sells mostly to school...
